My screen washer isn't working properly

Hi, my 1998 Ford Focus' screen washers are only drizzling water out of the jets. The pump sounds to be working ok and the washer reservoir is full of water/washer fluid concentrate. the jets are clear as I've unblocked them with a pin.
Any help will be much appreciated,
Stuart

You need to clean out your washer botle, its not that hard to do but you mite need a bit of help with puting it back, take of the near-side wheel (thats if its right hand drive, left hand drive is oposit)and then take of the wheel arch skin its only 3 screws holding it on then under the wheel arch you will see the washer botle undo the 2 bolts and just drop the botle down but take care not to pull the pipes out of the botom once you have got it out take of the pipes and the pump, behind the pump is a rubber bung take that out and empty the botle, get a hose and flush it out,it will be full of black gunk thats wot is blocking the pipes to the jets all that is,is putin washing-up liquid in the washer, and it has gon off, anyway all the best and hope you get it sourted, steveo

There is a filter at the bottom of the fliud reservoir that becomes blocked.
This is situated behind the passenger side inner wing. Making sure car is jacked safely remove p/s wheel and inner wing, a few screws and a couple of 10ml bolts not rocket science. The motor of held into the bottom of the reservoir by a rubber bung. Pull this away from the reservoir and the bung should detach allowing the perforations at one end to be cleaned. This cured my washer problem.

Hi Stuart,

The motor may be on its way out, but there is something you can do before you get a new one.

Disconnect the hose leading from the washer reservoir to the "jets" on the hood, or wipers, where ever they are located.

See if you can blow through the hose, if not, there is an obstruction. If you can, I don't know what to tell you.

Best of luck

Windscree washers not working.( Ford Focus 2000 Ghia)

Really cheap and dirty trick!!!
Pull off the pipe from one of the the jets, Take a glass full of water and take a swig, blow this water DOWN the pipe, effectively reverse flushing the pump and sending the debris back out of the filter, flush the bottle again afterwards and refill with water/fluid

Windscreen washers

Fords have a common problem with their washer pumps. for the last 12 years ford have fitted a plastic mesh over the inlet to the washer pump, this blocks up with the build up of crystalized washer fluid. fords official protocol says to use a small sharp object the size of a pencil to peirce the mesh and allow the flow of water. Also most washer bottles can be accessed via the front wheel arch. simple undo the fixings and pull the innier plastic wheelarch out the way and pull the pump out of the bottle. they are never fixed in just wedged in.

Ford focus washer not working.

does the pump work [listen for small motor sound] when washer stalk pressed ? and still no water - then it might be a blocked outlet from the washer bottle. At the outlet there is a filter which blocks with deposits. the only way to get at it is to remove the inner wing, it's a plastic cover above the wheel and bolted to the wing. remove this [ you will need some small spanners & sockets 10, 11 or 12 mm] and one top [access from inside the bonnet area] remove bottle by pushing forwards and down.; pull out filter & clean

Hyundai santa fe. Washers not working properly.

there is a screen filter on the washer pump suction line where it draws cleaner from the fluid reservoir, it must be plugging up, this is very common.
