2003 Nissan Murano - Fuel problems - knocking sound

I have not been using the 91 Octane Fuel. My car now has that knocking sound every time I step on the gas pedal. I have been told to start putting the higher fuel and which I did but I have gone through a full gas tank with that higher fuel and the knock is still there. My question is, will this knocking go away soon as I continue to fill up my tank with the higher octane fuel?

If the knocking did not go away with the higher octane fuel then you may have other problems. A dirty fuel injector oor a misfiring spark plug can also cause knocking in a modern car. A faulty sensor may also be causing the wrong fuel / air mixture in the cylinder... check out the cheapest fixes first.

Been using 87 octane in '02 maxima for 1yr. have replaced oxy & nkock sensors. Is this due to low octane?

Ok the 2002 Maxima 3.5 requires premium fuel 91 octane. According to the owners manual for optimum performance use 91 octane, you can use 87 octane unless you get pinging sounds. Sounds like you just need to use the proper octane. Occasionally I will run regular 87 and can really feel a loss of power. When I use 91 octane the car is a rocket ship.

What kind of gas does a maxima 2001

According to page 10-3 of the 2001 Nissan Maxima Owner's Manual:

FUEL RECOMMENDATION
Unleaded premium gasoline with an octane
rating of at least 91 AKI (Anti-Knock Index)
number (Research octane number 96)
If unleaded premium gasoline is not available,
unleaded regular gasoline with an
octane rating of at least 87 AKI (Research
octane number 91) can be used.
However, for maximum vehicle performance,
the use of unleaded premium gasoline
is recommended.

Engine "knock" is not just an unusual sound - but over time can cause real damage to the engine. You *should* use fuels with the recommended octane levels, but if you choose to use fuel with a lower octane level due to reduce fuel costs - do not repeatedly use fuel that causes engine knock. Find the "sweet spot" between the cost of lower octane fuel and an octane level that does not cause knocking. Expect fuel economy and performance to drop with lower octane fuels, too.

Good luck!

What type of fuel does it run. 87 89 91

You should be able to run the cheapest, low octane you can get, including e15, or more if you want. The only thing to watch for is knocking and pinging, most of these were made to run on low octane, but if they ping, you may need more umph. I have a couple of Nissans, no problem with pinging or low grade fuel.

Knocking/tapping when accelerating on 2003 nissan x-trail td

Usually an indication of Bad fuel, needs a tune up or Slipped Timing. Most likely bad fuel or tune up depending on when the last time you replaced the plugs and wires was. If you have been using the 87 Octane low grade fuel that would cause this or if you happened to get some bad fuel at a station. The vehicle will run on 87 octane but was designed to have a minimum of 89 octane fuel, the mid grade. If you haven't replaced your spark plugs in the last 25,000 miles replace the spark plugs and wires. If you suspect the fuel is the issue you can get injector cleaner or Octane boost and add to a FULL tank of gas to clean it out.

My truck has a really bad knock when I step on the accelerator... but it sounds fine when I let off? Any Ideas?

Knock is caused by low octane gas and high combustion temperatures as well as overadvanced timing.
Try cleaning out each cylinder with a little gum out , recheck timing and use a higher octane fuel.

Spark knocks when taking off from idling/starts to miss after sitting at idle

The 2 most common causes of spark knock are #1 ignition timing too high, and #2 Low octane fuel. Check your ignition timing, and try a mid grade 89 octane or 91 octane fuel, or you could use an octane booster in your fuel. Good Luck! I hope you find this to be very helpful!

Im curious about octane in fuel and what it does. I have a Nissan 350Z that requires 91 octane. Now if I were to put 94 or higher, would it improve performance or fuel efficiency at all or is it just a...

Octane is an added ingredient that burns more efficently than gasoline..use the 91 octane rating that your owner's manual specifies. Lower octane will degrade performance, higher than 91 is wasting money because it has more octane and is more expensive, but does not improve performance.

2003 stype jaguar chek engine light went after low octane gas was put in

thats because of spark knock which can damage the engine(pinging). if you have not hurt any thing, immediatly put in some octane booster and then premium fuel. also keep your foot out of it to keep the load off the engine to reduce pinging until the yucky gas is gone. the light should go out on its own when the correct octane fuel is in use. dont use anything lower than 91 octane in it or ull b sorry...
