WHEN YOU BUY A 1983 MAZDA RX 7 YOU ARE BUYING SOME ONE'S PROBLEMS. SO NOW THIS CAR YOU HAVE TO GIVE IT A COMPLETE CHEK UP.YOU HAVE TO ASK YOU'R SELF HOW LONG IS THIS CAR BEEN SITTIN WITHOUT ANYONE DRIVING IT??? NOW YOU HAVE TO FIGUAR OUT WHERE DO I START,1- GAS FILTER GAS PUMP, GAS TANK- -DOES IT HAVE ANY GUNK? 2-DOSE THE CARBURETOR NEED CLEANIG OR ADJUSTING OR REBUILDING ? 3-HOSES 4-DOES THE ENGINE HAVE GOOD COMPRESSION 5-RADIATOR AND COOLING SYSTEM? OIL LEAKS CHECK OIL PAN SEE THAT THERE IS NO WATER IN IT.THESE ARE THE THINGS THAT NEED AN INSPECTION..I WOULD START FIRST BY CHECKING ENGINE COMPRESSION YOU NEED A PRESSURE GAUGE IF YOU HAVE ONE OR BUY ONE AT AUTO ZONE IS BEST TO BUY THE TYPE OF GAUGE THAT SCREWS IN THE PISTON HOLE. IF YOU BUY ONE ASK A SERVICEMEN FROM AUTO FOR INSTRUCTIONS...
GOOD LUCK AND WORK SAFELY.
Need to make sure it is turning fast enough, and cranking voltage does not go below 10V. if it does there are issues with battery/cables/wiring/starter. If it cranks fast with no start, check plugs and wires, recommend NGK only. No they are not cheap but they are the best value for the normal driver.
IF they are good and fuel delivery is good, a compression test would be recommended. FSM can be found at foxed.ca
bastard things are prone to flooding im afraid, take plugs out, whizz it over for 30 seconds be patient and wait for half hour to give time to dry out, then a couple of squirts of oil in each plug hole, whizz it over for about 2 seconds, then a couple more squirts of oil in each plughole again, replace (dry) sparkplugs, leads on turn it over and it should go.ive suffered this twice this year (in the rain). repeat if nescessary avoid this problem by NOT RUNNING for LESS THAN 5 MINIUTS,as this is caused by a rush ov petrol because ecu thinks engine is cold so injects more fuel, then you turn engine off, this rush of petrol rinses the rotors clean of the oil they depend upon to maintain compression upon restarting, this is where the proceedure above works. regards dave
well, when you turn off the rotary it leaves oil and gas.so when you start it up, it burns off the oil you left causeing blueish smoke. same problem with flooding, when you drive short distance , warmup incorrectly or if use synthetic oil.to fix the cause of flooding(i have the same vehicle and problems)let it warm up for at least 15 min.there is also a fuel pump wire next to the fuse box located above the brake pedal.then you tap a switch from the fuel pump to your interior.the reoson being is so whenever you come to a stop to park flip the swith.that allows the rotar to burn the fuel left in the pump witch will make your rx7 to stutter out and die.when you start it back up ,flip the swicth back on and it will take an extra second for it to crank over.1 more thing, check your oil every 2-3 fills on gas and change oil every 2000 miles.also redline it at least one a week. i hope i just solved your problem because i love my 87 non turbo and know how you feel.if you want to look at cheap aftermarket parts for rx7 then go to srmotorsports.com/rx7guru.com is a guy that test parts to tell people wats good and cheap for rx7s.i would recomend roll cage and 5 point harness-seats.good luck with your rx7 bro
Waht do you mean is damaged the axle its self or just the inside gears(Ring and Pinion) are bad>If its the insides then yes the ring and pinion will inner change.Just be sure to use the assembly, pinion, ring gear, spider gears and all shims..
