Maybe put down a piece of cardboard and try to determine where on the engine the leak is. Front, back, right, left... then make another posting with more detail. (sorry to many places it could be)

Motor apping after oil change

check that the correct oil filter is used as some aftermarket filters lack an anti drain back valve and so the hydraulic tappets run dry for a small time until the oil pressure builds up. Check the oil level to ensure that the sump plug was fitted tightly or the filter is not leaking at the gasket. Check the viscosity of the oil used in the change.

2003 Beetle 2.0 has oil leak.Leaving oil on ground.Appears to be dripping off oil pan drain plug,Plug is tight.Any idea of what is above plug area that might be leaking.Oil filter is tight and not leaking

the plug is the lowest part, so any leak above it will end up at the plug, so make sure it has a good gasket at the plug. you may need to get some "brake cleaner" and clean any oil off, and then run the car and determine where the leak is originating from.

How to change the oil filter

Put the car on a lift or jacks. Since it has low clearnance you will need lower jacks or use a ramp.

Remove the oil cap and the oil filter. You may need a strap wrench if the oil filter is too tight to come off by hand.

Look for trap door under the metal cover underneath the car. Open the trap door and you will have access to the oil pan drain bolt.

Use 17mm socket to remove the drain bolt and catch oil into a basin.

Remove the oil filter from the oil cap housing. YOu will also have to remove a large and small oil ring as well as a washer. The new filter will come with those. The oil rings must go into the groove to prevent oil from leaking. The filter goes on the cap housing. The washer that comes with the oil filter goes with the drain plug. Take off the old washer drain plug and put on the new washer drain plug and drain bolt once all oil has poured out.

Ratchet in drain bolt and close the trap door. Put on oil filter by hand. Put in 7 quarts of 5w-30 oil. Check with the dipstick as you get to the last half quart.

Replace oil cap, start engine, and check for any indications of leaks.

Find the oil drain plug, remove, drain the oil into a pan, reinstall the drain plug a tighten, locate the oil filter and remove, check mounting surface to make sure the old gasket didn't stick. Coat the new filter gasket with oil and install hand tight. Refill the oil, make sure that you do not overfill. Start enigne for about a minute, shut off and double check the level, and that the filter and drain plug do not leak.
Some engines can be difficult, to identify the location of the drain plug and filter. There are thousands of configurations out there, If you are not familiar or can not locate the plug and filter, take the vehicle to a shop for service.

I have a 2002 Yukon/Denali with an oil leak

I had the same problem with my 87 gmc year ago but if it is the same set up and I am assuming it is because it is exactly the same problem i went thrugh then when you take the filter off look and see if there are two bolts up in the assembly and if there are it probably is the seal, mine worked there way loose and a simple tightening fixed the problem, otherwise you will have top replace the seals

  2. When oil is done draining replace the drain plug and install a new crush seal (silvery washer on drain plug)

How do I change my oil on my 98 ford escort zx2

Try this.

On level ground, jack up the front of the car and support it with axle stands.

Get an open container that will take more than 5 ltrs.

Under the engine block you will find the sump.

On the sump you should find a 13mm nut, this is the drain plug.

Undo the drain plug and have the empty container directly below the sump plug.

Retain the sump plug and clean it with a rag.

When the oil has drained out of the sump, put back the plug making sure the washer is in good condition and the plug is tight.

Now unscrew the oil filter having the old oil container below the filter housing to catch any oil.

Wipe around the the filter housing to remove any and all old oil.

Now offer up the new oil filter but do not tighten.

If the new filter fits the oil filter housing, then remove it and lightly oil the rubber seal on the filter with clean oil.

Now refit the filter and tighten it up. Not too tight, you can do this by hand but get it as tight as you can.

Now lower the car to to the ground.

At the top of the engine you will find an oil filler cap. Undo this cap.

Now put in the new oil to just below the full mark on the dip stick. Let the oil drain through the engine to the sump for a couple of minutes before checking the oil level.

If the level is between 1/2 and full, replace the filler cap and start the engine.

Now look at the oil filter and the sump plug for any leaks. Also check around the oil filler cap for oil leaks and spillage.

With the engine turned off. Clean any oil spillages and tighten up the oil filter, sump and oil filler cap as required.

Now leave the oil to drain back to the sump for a few minutes.

Check the oil level and top up as required.

I find that it is best to top the oil up to just below the Max mark.

This should solve the problem.

Oil leak

Does the oil have a strong smell? It sounds like it is your front differential and it may be that the lube center overfilled it during their routine. Take it back and see. If they have see if they can take a bit out.
