If the compressor is running then it is either rear bags are leaking or compressor is to weak.If you have a way to raise car up in the air or at least the rear when you get it up you will probably notice cracks in the bags at the bottom of the bag. A temporary fix is you can take a tube of silicone rubber and rub it over the cracks in the bottom of the bags, let it dry then see if it will raise back up.If it does then you can probably get by with just bags.

go to your local auto parts place ask for the kit that changes the car from air ride to spring ride it comes complete with springs shocks and all the hardware might take it to mechanic to have this done it costs about 500 $

Rear air suspension

The air system does not lower when you get out, it levels the car and stays level, but is you put weight in trunk and people sitting in the back seat and the car lifts to level out with the weight and then you remove all the weight and rear end is to high up then there is a problem.
These bags do not lift that high, if you hear the solenoids make sure it is not lower , measure. Also, the release of the air is very slow, make sure it is not lower, if you hear the solenoids open the car may be lowering very slow. check the height. If you are sure its not lowering then you may be correct in saying the level sensor may be bad. the only other part would be the solenoids but i would start with the level sensor as the air is going into the bags.
I quick test to check solenoids at bags is to start car and go rear the rear and locate the sensor, remove the arm from the control arm and bring it down so computer thinks car is to high and see if air is released. caution don"t stay under the car as it will lower down slowly. if it starts to lower then turn key off and reconnect lever and replace sensor.there is a company we use that is real good at this air bag system and prices are good with quality parts.

How can you tell your air compressor trunk switch is not working in a 97' lincoln town car

is the car sagging inthe rear?? bags deflated?? the switch shuts off the comressor so when we jack it up on the hoist it doesnt blow the bags(they are the rear shocks) try tripping the switch off and on to see if it will reset, check for a fuse if the bags have been leeking the compressor would have beeen running for a long time (while driving) and may also have burnt out . there is also a ride height switch under car(senses load to level car if trunk filled with stuff) that may have bent or broken... pop switch out and jump across contacts (trunk switch) if comperssor good it should inflate bags , test light to
confirm power to switch (blown fuse)
good places to start auto wreckers for parts if needed

The rear of the car is low to the ground, could just one air bag be bad?

Usually these break in pairs because of the air compressor....but you may have one ruptured bag.

Just had car dealership repair 1997 lincoln town air ride

Those Lincolns are notorious for that,I'd just get a set of coil springs out of a Crown Victoria cop car(junk yard)and swap them out.Done it many times, you can do it in about an hour, and they'll never leak down again.By the way, there's some O-rings in that system.Make some soapy water and spray every connection, just maybe you'll get lucky.

My 1994 lincoln town car keeps blowing fuses for air bags?

the air compressor is probably bad, there are companies that sell kits to eleminate the compressors and air bags with springs. I have used a few and they work ok.

Rear air bags supension light comes on

Usually this is caused by jacking the rear of the car without turning off the air suspension first using the switch in the trunk. Unfortunately, if this is the case the airbags will likely need replacing and they are not cheap.

It is also possible that they wore out or the air compressor has gone bad. Can you hear the compressor starting as normal when you first start the car? If so, then its the bags.

Air bags not filling to normal

Yes, sir, generally when the rear suspension air shocks go bad the compressor is soon to follow, as the bags develop leaks the pump runs more and more, it overheats, and soon the brushes and winding crash, also it has an internal switch to release extra air when their is to much, like when you have a couple of people in your back seat and they get out, one other thing, is the suspension sensor
connected to rear axle and body to determine height, If you have a way to read your air suspension codes it will tell you what is happening, but i believe your pump needs to be replaced. If this helps you, please vote me a fixya, if not please do not rate me at all. It only hurts my ratings, I try to help people for free, and only want a good rating in return, It's the holidays, and I don't always have time to answer back as normal, but if you have patience, I will follow up with any more help you need. Merry Christmas

i GOT a bad pump twice both were aftermarket, If you bought an original OEM one it has a warranty. !

92 lincoln towncar air bag light flashing

Air suspension is controlled by the compressor in your engine compartment.  The compressor runs when the suspension is not level.  Either because you have loaded the car with exceptional weight and the system is now adjusting the ride, or you have a leak in the system, or you have a bad sensor.
If you have a leak, the most likely culprit are the air suspension bags, the air suspension solenoids or possibly the lines to them.
Try these sites:

I don't work for either of them.  I own a 96 TC and have replaced my air suspension with coil springs form Strutmasters.  Work GREAT and I have no more air suspension problems.  Rides just as good too.  You can't tell the difference.

Air Rise Suspension/computer module

my brother in law replaced the air springs on my '94 town car with rear coil springs from a '92 crown vic. He raised the rear tires off the ground and put jack stands on the frame for safety on both sides. Then disconnected the shocks at the lower end and removed the air springs.removed rear tires and used a piece of 2x4 to pry axle down to provide clearance to put coil springs in place. then hooked shocks back up and it worked fine. the only way the coil springs could come out is if the car was upside down and then who cares. This project only cost $ 25.00 Real cheap being we were broke!
