Car has not been driven in a while. Recharged battery and engine will turn over but car will not start. Fuel pump shut-off button was not triggered (at least there was nothing to press). Is there a way to check the fuel line at the engine?

2002 mercury cougar, car will run if battery is charged but will not stay running after charge is gone. Alternator was checked and is good but it seems to not want to stay charged. I think it their is a short in the wires coming to or from the alternator but in not sure.

I got my 1997 mecury cougar spark plugs changed and a week later my car lost power and stopped running.ive changed a fuel filter, batterie and coil paks on it.it doesnt want to start

you'll have to see if its missing fuel, air,or spark.Fuel could be bad fuel pump, air something clogging air filter duct, spark bad coil,or coils, crank sensor.

2000 mercury cougar will not start

If it is getting spark I will assume the timing belt is working.
You say the fuel pump is good, so what is the fuel pressure at the rail ?
Are the spark plugs wet or dry ? Can you get it to try to start by using starting fluid ?
You may have to get someone to check the computer for trouble codes which requires a scanner or code reader.

When it starts it runs fine..when it does not have to wait one or two day and then it will start ok..now it has been 3 days and car will not start..on going problem and the local ford dealer has no...

3 things to start up the car, air, spark and fuel. First make sure no issues with battery. Check if fuel is being pumped, if not check fuel filter and then pump. If ok, then check for spark, if no spark, check leads and then coil pack. If ok, check mass air flow sensor. There could be other issues like crank angle sensor, or knock sensor, cam sensor. Since you have been to the dealer I assume that the dealer has scanned ecu for fault codes. So check the above 3 things and let me know how you go.

1999 mercury cougar. won't start...cranks...battery ok.

V6 ? 4CYL? Have you verified SPARK? Did anyone check the "fuel pump inertia switch?" Its in the right front kick panel. If it was a "Anti-theft Issue" the light would be on or flashing.

1999 Mercury Cougar has problems starting

I would check all of the connections to and from the alternator and starter, plus the grounds, they could be corroded or have weak connection, as far as no power going up a hill, check the map sensor
