Hate to tell you this but you have to take the pan back off. Two things there is a seal inside the trans where the filter fits into that needs replaced It is difficult to do but it helps hold and seal the filter. if it does not get replaced the filter falls down and the pump cannot pick up the fluid and thus operate the clutches and torque converter to move the vehicle.....

Some of these vehicles do not have a transmission level stick. you have to fill it from the plug under the transmission. There is a plug inside a plug. the torqe's bit is what you need to take out and fill the transmission through that hole while running until fluid starts to dribble out of the hole.

Good luck..

check make sure transmission fluid not too low or could have plugged transmission filter.or code scan for faulty transmission fluid pressure sensor or transmission range sensor bad or out of adjustment.transmission could have failed.garage has to run fluid pressure test see if transmission failed or you could have faulty shift solenoid..

How to replace transmission filter in 1989 k 1500

If its staying in second gear, problems could be a plugged valve body, electric solenoid failure, or linkage problems.
Changing the filter probably won't help.

I HAVE A 1995 CHEVY SILERADO WITH AN AUTO TRANSMISSION (480L)E. I HAVE TAKEN THE PAN OFF TO CHANGE THE FILTER BECAUSE IT QUIT GOING IN REVERSE AND SOMEONE TOLD ME THAT IF ALL OTHER GEARS WORK FINE THEN IT...

The filter should be beyond the pan. Since you have it removed, check if you see a lip ring seal pressed into a casing. The filter or screen is held by that seal. If changing fluid and cleaning the screen or filter does not work, you may have to inspect the transmission valve that controls the transmission fluid to engage or disengage the gears. There may be debris there. You should also find a magnet at the area of the pan. It also acts as a filter. You will have to clean that as well. Let me know if this helps. Thanks

Toyota Vista SV50 model / year 1999: I have used Dextron type 2 automatic fluid in the auto transmission. Could this be the problem for auto gears sticking in same gear too long when car is started in...

Hi, since you use a dextron type 2 automatic fluid then it is not cause of the sticking gear. Rather it should be as a result of a clogged transmission filter. A clogged transmission filtercan cause problems with changing gears because it will not allow the fluid to pass through the valve body or valve solenoids at the proper pressure. Without pressure, the plates won't move properly and you won't be able to easily change gears. This can be symptomatic either by itself or along with burnt or worn out transmission fluid, and both should generally be replaced at the same time, rather than just replacing one or the other.

The gears r slipping when temp gets hot just put flid in yesterday does this mean I need new transmission

You may get luck and you may just have a 1-poor line pressure rise due to leaking boost valve, 2-clogged EPC filter screen, 3-failing EPC solenoid, 4-or worst case: leaky seals throughout. First two without removing trans. Seal restorer may fix last problem, but probably R&R. Also try a transmission flush with BG brand products to clean the EPC filter screen and then service the transmission by replacing the boost valve, transmission oil and filter.
Thank you for using fixya and good luck. This should keep you from replacing the transmission if the clutch packs are not to badly worn or damaged which can be inspected when the transmission pan is dropped by the amount of clutch particles collected in the transmission pan.

you have a GM 4l30e transmission. sealed. replace the filter and fluid.

could be a solenoid problem as well, but go for the filter and fluid 1st.
