I think the 97 uses a crank sensor where the 94 doesn't. (not sure) I don't see any reason you can't just leave it unhooked. I put a 92 engine in a 94 but because of the differences in the emission controls, I had to use the 94 intake and injection system. It worked out fine. Still driving it. Some advice, while you have it apart, clean the EGR valve and journals especially the ones going from the exhaust manifold to the EGR valve (driver side of motor). That is a common problem with these cars and it usually ends up ruining the engine. (My experience is with the 3 cyl model).

Radiator

Your radiator is up front, it has a cap on the top and an expansion tank with a cap on it. Pull the cap off when it is cold, and check the coolant, dill it up in the radiator and fill the expansion tank to the mark on the side. It will level itself out as you drive if you put in too much. You have a condenser in front of the radiator that cools the AC unit. It has no cap, and no access, just don't want to confuse the two.Hope this helps.

Fast idle

Sounds like your throttle position sensor is bad.
Take it to Auto Zone and ask them to pull any computer codees that may be latched. Not sll codes trigger the check engine light

Ignition key is stuck in the ingnition

I had the same problem. The solution is to first remove the key by removing the hole cover on the bottom of the steering column and depressing the plunger. The owner's manual tells you how. If you don't remove the key, the battery will go dead, and you will have trouble opening the rear hatch, where the battery is. You can jump start from the front. It tells you how in the manual. Then take your car to the dealer for replacement of the automatic shifter. The problem is caused by a defect in the shifter made by delphi (I Think). A pin that that goes through the shift rod becomes loose and slides to one side so it does not engage a micro switch that releases the key. GM has know about this problem for some time. I hope you are still under warranty, otherwise it will cost you $475. There is another post on the internet that gives a do-it-yourself fix.
