Question about 1997 Dodge Intrepid

Open Question

Where's the ignition control module?

I have a 2000 Dodge Intrepid 2.7L V6, the diagnosis says "ignition control module and/or misfire". I know that this particular car doesn't have an ingnition control module, per say, but regardless of what it's called, I need to know where it is!

i honestly don't know what code number came up, my buddy has a diagnostic device and he said it comes up as 'ignition control module and/or misfire'. as far as symptoms go, it had a hard time starting yesterday after stalling, when it idles the RPMs go from about 900-1000 and jump up to about 1500 then go back down. it sounds like it wants to stall again, but doing okay so far.

Is it giving you a particular trouble code?

These vehicles have Coil On Plug ignition and im 99% sure They are controlled by grounding inside the PCM

  • Kirk May 11, 2010

there is no ignition control module the PCM mounted behind the left headlight controls spark.. the ignition system is coil on plug.. what code number did you get?

the PCM is almost never the cause of problems on that car.

    what symptom are you having?

SOURCE: I have a 2004 Dodge Intrepid ---- It is showing 3 Error Codes

ok means that you dont have spark plug explotion on 1 or more cylinders and that means miss fire.

Disconnect the battery like 20 or 30 min and then connect the battery again and start the car, then drive and scan again, if you have same code you can do this:

1. take off your O2 sensor and test check if there is wrong change it because maybe that is the problem of all!

2. take off your spark plugs and put new ones.

if not work... do this.

reset your ecu (like I say before)
take your ignition coil #6 and change the place with another one on the same head side.

assambly and go to test if the DTC change like hummm example: Ignition coil #4 then or any other, then you know that the problem is your ignition coil.

if not work this... do this..

take off your ignition coil from the spark plug but still plug to the harnes (the ignition that is failing) and then take the ignition coil closer to Ground (another metal) and then start the car you need to see how the elctricity (not know how to say) "energy" jumps from the coil to the graund many times

if not are any energy jump you need to do this...

check the harnes like maybe that is the problem the question here is do you have voltage in the harness?

hope this help you.

If the engine is not missing now or running rough,The code may be an old one stored in the computer,
The code for Evap usually comes from someone getting gas and not tightening the fuel cap so it clicks at least four times.

Dodge Intrepid 1998 2.7 V6. Won't start. you turn ignition key, it send power but not rich the starter. No ground on under hood fuse box. I did bypass to fuel pump, TCM shoot down and automatic shoot down...

make sure you have spark, sometimes if you start bypassing stuff the ignition works only on a resistor to much electricity and it won't work, not enough and it won't work.

Possible bad ignition coil and valve cover gasket

No start on 97 dodge intrepid. I Know that Coil pack is Below Valve cover and Have repaired Numerous Ignition coils due to there becoming Oil soaked , the oil will gather dust dirt and thus Insulating ( Retaining Heat) i and this Causes them to Over heat and Fail , in short Burning them out. I say this Because of your Mention of it as a symptom. you must first Determine if it is getting spark ,have someone Crank Engine over While you are Holding the Spark plug wire 1/4 inch away from coil tower (TERMINAL) do this to all 6 if no spark at any of them ,that coil could be bad (Most Likley), If all Have NO SPARK then it is One of the fallowing,,

  1. Cam Sensor
  2. Crank Sensor
  3. Ignition control module
If Control module is wet with Oil most likely needs replaced some Parts stores can test coil and Modules.

NOW if you have Spark on All 6 Cylinders Check for fuel delivery, Do this at the shrader Valve on the fuel rail,(LOOKS LIKE AIR FILL VALVE ON WHEELS) Simply remove cap turn key on for 5 seconds then turn it OFF Depress the Stem at shrader valve If you get a Good SPRAY of FUEL upon doing this 3-4 times then you have Fuel Pressure !!!!WARNING !!! Test Equipment is Recommended for all Procedures but their certain steps to take if you don't have a DIGITAL VOLT METER or Fuel Pressure tester. I Hope this helps you with your Diagnosis od the problem. Have A Good Day

Ignition Module

They don't have an ignition module per say.. You firing is controled by the PCM, which is the computer and is locater under your air intake box, which has to be remover for access. How did you come up with the idea it was a bad ignition module??
