High pressure power steering hose - one or two?

Line goes from power streering pump, across front of vehicle to bottom of engine up to the steering column just below brake master cynlinder, whats this hose call?

    there are two hoses , low pressure is a return hose that will normally have band clamps , the other hose will be high pressure and will normally have pressure type clamps , are the pump and reservoir one unit or pump and reservoir separate ? separate reservoir style will have two low pressure hoses

How do the power steering hoses go on on a 2001 Pontiac Aztek and why is there no circular motion inside the pump

The only squared thing on the pump is the "plastic"
fluid tank... Everything else about the design & function
is "circular".

There is ABSOLUTELY circular "MOTION" inside the PUMP...
PLEASE NOTE... there is a giant pulley on the front..
and the design of the pump is all about rotational force of the hydraulic pump (right THROUGH the middle).

High pressure to the high pressure...
(with a possible cooler option in the middle)
Low pressure back to the reservoir

How to replace PS pressure hose on 95 Buick Roadmaster

Remove or Disconnect

Coolant recovery tank.
ECM cover.
Serpentine belt.
Power steering pressure line at pump.
Catch oil in drain pan.
Power steering pressure line at steering gear.
The pressure pipe is the lower line at the steering gear.
Use a 18 mm crow's foot line wrench with a 2 foot, 3/8 inch drive extension.
Access line from engine compartment, between the rocker arm cover and front of dash mat.
Raise and suitably support vehicle.
Steering gear heat shield bolts and heat shield.
Power steering gear line clamps at steering gear.
Power steering pressure line from vehicle.
Install or Connect

Power steering pressure line into vehicle.
Power steering gear line clamp at steering gear.
Steering gear heat shield and bolts.
Tighten
Bolts to 6 N.m (54 lb. in.) .
Lower vehicle.
Power steering pressure line at steering gear.
Use a 18 mm crow 5 foot line wrench with a 2 foot, 3/8 inch drive extension.
Power steering pressure line at pump.
Serpentine belt.
ECM cover.
Coolant recovery tank.
Fill system.
Bleed the system.
Inspect
For leaks.
To support the cradle while lowering it use a floor jack in the center of the rear.

yes, i would change both lines since you are there. no other disconnects.With the bolts removed it will drop about 4 to 5 inches. make sure the fronts are tight,take your time.

HOW DO I REPLACE THE HIGH PRESSURE LINE FOR A POWER STEERING UNIT ON A 1998 MUSTANG?

Disconnect battery ground cable.
Remove engine Air Cleaner (ACL) .
Disconnect electrical connector in back of engine cooling fan motor.
Remove radiator fan shroud.
Disconnect constant control relay module harness from headlamp harness and place constant control relay module on top of engine to provide accessibility to power steering lines.
Remove wiring harness guide retaining screws and position guide aside.
Remove screw at power steering hose bracket.
Remove anti-rattle clip.
Remove plastic strap retaining tubes to power rack and pinion steering gear.
Remove power steering pressure hose at power steering pump.
Remove power steering pressure hose at power rack and pinion steering gear.
Remove power steering pressure hose from vehicle.
Reverse procedure to install new hose.
Fill and bleed power steering system.

On a 99 Olds Alero, in the return lines of the power steering hoses, which place does the high pressure hose attach to?

RETURN TURN LINE GOES TO THE LEFT OF RACK PINION AND HIGH PRESSURE HOSE GOES TO THE RIGHT OF RACK PINION.LOOKING AT POWER STEERING PUMP HIGH PRESSURE HOSE THICK HOSE SCREWS INTO POWER STEERING PUMP.WHILE LOW PRESSURE HOSE HAS A HOSE WITH A CLAMP THE LOW PRESSURE HOSE HOOKS TO TOP OF POWER STEERING PUMP.LOW PRESSURE DONT SCREW INTO POWER STEERING PUMP IT IS HELD IN PLACE BY A HOSE SMALL CLAMP.

I have a leak coming from my power steering, and i dont know how to check and see where the leak is and what to look for.

There are two lines coming out of the back of the power steering pump. One is the high pressure line and threaded into the pump. The other is the return line, and has a metal tube coming out of the back of the pump. There should be a short rubber hose connecting this tube with another metal line that goes to the steering box. There are two metal lines threaded into the top of the steering box. The steering box is located at the end of the steering column and is bolted to the drivers side frame rail at the front of the vehicle. You will have to remove the left front tire to access these fittings. The rubber hose will be attached with hose clamps and are prone to leak. To tighten the threaded fittings, you will need a 16mm open end wrench, or preferably a flare nut wrench of the same size.

Are the power steering lines connected to the oil lines somehow? Just before my power steering crapped out, I would top up the pump reservoir only to blow white smoke out the tailpipe all the way home. How...

Hi. Your power steering pump hoses are closed looped. They run from the pump assembly to the reservoir.They do not run to any of your oil lines. Now, with that said, i would recommend to inspect your assembly for possible leaks. This is a high pressure setup that will produce leaks during hose or clamp failure. The reservoir can crack as well. This will cause fluid to leaks on the engine block or exhaust manifold, thus, causing the white smoke or burn off affect. Use the procedure below to inspect for possible loose hoses or compromised pump seals and reservoir issues.



Once you have staged your vehicle in a safe place, open the hood and locate your power steering system on your vehicle. The easiest way is to follow the part of the steering column assembly that goes through the firewall. Follow the components connected to the steering column all the way to the wheel assemblies and hoses connected to the power steering pump and reservoir. Attempt to scrub wet and dirty components around the steering system, using shop rags if the leak source is not readily apparent. Now,start the engine, rotating the steering wheel all the way from left to right several times to increase system pressure in the pump and hoses. Turn off the engine and inspect the system from the engine compartment, using a flashlight preferably. In some cases, you might have to wait one or two days for the leak to reveal itself . Next, check around the power steering pump, for possible cracks. If you find fluid around the pump case, the case is damaged and should be replaced. Some pumps are equipped with internal seals that may be replaced when necessary. Also, look around the reservoir and make sure it is in good condition. A cracked reservoir must be replaced as well.

Now, look around all fittings and hoses. A loose fitting cannot contain the high pressure in the system. Tighten clamps using a Phillips or flathead screwdriver or ratchet and socket, depending on the type of fitting or clamp used in your system. Additionally, check along the hoses for cuts. If possible, run your fingers along the length of the hose to find hidden wet spots. A hose leaking somewhere along the middle will have to be replaced. If the gash is very close to the end of the hose, you might be able to cut off the damaged part and reconnect the hose to the component. You will also need to Check the metal lines connecting the steering gear assembly to other components. A ruptured metal line must be replaced.

Lastly; Inspect completely around the rubber boots located between the ends of the steering gear assembly and the arms linking the assembly to the wheels. If fluid is leaking at either end, then the seals at the ends of the steering gear assembly will need to be replaced. If necessary, raise the front end of the vehicle using a floor jack and support it on jack stands or ramps. Once the vehicle is safely supported, inspect the steering gear assembly more closely to see if it is in good or bad condition . Make sure you check all the ares above for possible leaks or loose connections before replacing the entire pump.

How to install a power steering pump for a 1997 chrysler seabring conv

Chrysler Cirrus/Stratus/Sebring/Avenger/Breeze 1995-1998
Power Steering Pump - REMOVAL & INSTALLATION

Cirrus, Stratus, Sebring Convertible and Breeze
(see Figures 1, 2, 3 and 4)
  1. Disconnect the negative battery cable from the left strut tower. The ground cable is equipped with an insulator grommet, which should be placed on the stud to prevent the negative battery cable from accidentally grounding.
  2. Siphon as much power steering fluid out of the reservoir as possible.
  3. Raise and safely support the vehicle.
  4. Remove the right front tire and wheel assembly.
  5. Remove the splash shield from the right front wheel well.

  1. Disconnect the power steering pressure hose from the pump.
  2. Remove the hose connection on the power steering pump.

  1. Remove the power steering adjusting bolt.
  2. Remove the power steering pump rear attaching bolt.
  3. If so equipped, remove the Anti-lock Brake System (ABS) hydraulic control unit heat shield.
  4. Remove the wheel speed sensor retainer bracket from the right inner fender.
  5. Remove the wheel speed sensor sealing grommet from the right inner fender.
  6. Disconnect the speed sensor wiring.
  7. Push the wiring through the hole in the inner fender.
If not equipped with anti-lock brakes, the hole will just have a sealing plug.
  1. Remove the bolt attaching the power steering front bracket to the mounting bracket. Access to the bolt is gained through the hole for the speed sensor wiring.
  2. Remove the power steering pump drive belt.
  3. Remove the power steering pump and the front bracket as an assembly.
To install:
  1. Install the power steering pump and bracket.
  2. Reinstall the bolt at the adjusting slot, but do not tighten.
  3. Reinstall the bolt mounting the power steering pump to the rear mounting bracket, but do not tighten.
  4. Reinstall the power steering pump top bolt, but do not tighten.
  5. Reconnect the power steering hoses.

Use a new O-ring when reinstalling the power steering pressure hose.
  1. Reinstall the drive belt.
  2. Adjust the drive belt and tighten the power steering pump bolts to 40 ft. lbs. (54 Nm).
  3. Reinstall the splash shield.
  4. Reinstall the tire and wheel assembly.
  5. Lower the vehicle.
  6. Reconnect the negative battery cable.
  7. Refill the reservoir and bleed the power steering system.


Sebring Coupe and Avenger
  1. Disconnect the negative battery cable.
  2. Remove (drain, suction pump, etc.) as much power steering fluid as possible.
  3. Disconnect the return fluid line. Remove the reservoir cap and allow the return line to drain the fluid from the reservoir. If the fluid is contaminated, disconnect the ignition high tension cable and crank the engine several times to drain the fluid from the gearbox.
Cover any components located underneath the power steering pump with a shop towel to protect them from damage due to power steering fluid spillage. For example, the A/C compressor or alternator, depending on vehicle and engine, is below the power steering pump, so cover the A/C compressor or alternator with a shop towel before removing any hoses.
  1. Loosen (but do not remove) the power steering pump mounting bolts and remove the drive belt.
  2. Remove the pressure switch connector from the side of the pump.
  3. Disconnect the pressure line.
  4. Unbolt and remove the pump from the mounting bracket.
To install:
  1. Clean all parts well. Inspect the pump pulley for cracks. Check the hoses carefully for cracks or signs of weakness.
  2. Install the pump, wrap the belt around the pulley and lightly tighten the mounting bolts.
  3. Replace the O-rings and connect the pressure line. Connect the pressure line so the notch in the fitting aligns and contacts the pump's guide bracket. Tighten the fitting to 13 ft. lbs. (18 Nm).
  4. Connect the return line and secure with the clamp.
  5. Fasten the pressure switch connector.
  6. Adjust the power steering belt for proper tension and tighten the adjusting bolts.
Use only MOPAR ATF PLUS automatic transmission fluid type 7176, ATF+3 automatic transmission fluid, or equivalent, in the power steering system of Sebring coupe and Avenger models.
  1. Refill the reservoir and bleed the power steering system.

Power streering went and fluid is pouring out the bottom? I need to know if this is a rack and pinion system.

Possibly, but more likely a break in the high pressure hose that runs from the power steering pump to the rack and pinion assembly.

How do you remove the Power Steering Pump and bracket. I have taken off several bolts but it still is not letting loose. Help

3.0L (VIN 3) Engine

  1. Disconnect and isolate the negative battery cable.
  2. Remove the accessory drive belt. The belt does not have to be removed from the engine.
  3. Raise and safely support the vehicle.
  4. Disconnect the wiring harness connector to the oxygen sensor which is accessible through the oxygen sensor wiring harness grommet in the vehicle floor pan.
  5. Remove the catalytic converter from the exhaust manifold and remove all exhaust system hangers and isolators from the exhaust system brackets. Move exhaust system out of the way as far rearward and to the left as possible to provide access to the power steering pump.
  6. Place a drain pan under the power steering pump. Remove the power steering fluid return line hose on the front suspension cradle. Allow the fluid to drain from the pump and hose.
  7. Remove the accessory drive belt splash shield.
  8. Disconnect the power steering remote reservoir supply hose from the fitting on the power steering pump. Allow fluid to drain from the hose.
  9. Remove power steering fluid pressure line from the power steering pump and drain any excess power steering fluid.
  10. Remove the power steering fluid return hose from the power steering pump.
  11. Remove the rear support bracket mounted behind the power steering pump to the engine block.
  12. Remove the 2 mounting bolts that secure the pump to the alternator/power steering pump and belt tensioner mounting bracket.
  13. Remove the power steering pump and pulley assembly out from the vehicle. Transfer all required parts from the pump to the new replacement pump before installation.
To install:
  1. Position the front of the power steering pump up onto the mounting bracket. Torque the 2 power steering pump-to-mounting bracket bolts to 40 ft. lbs. (54 Nm).
  2. Install the rear power steering pump-to-engine block support bracket. Torque the 2 support bracket mounting bolts to 40ft. lbs. (54 Nm). Install the nut to the mounting stud behind the pump and torque to 40 ft. lbs. (54 Nm).
  3. Install the high pressure fluid line to the pump output fitting. Torque the high pressure line-to-power steering pump fitting to 275 inch lbs. (31 Nm). Be sure to inspect the pressure line O-ring for any damage before connecting the pressure line to the steering pump.
  4. Install the low pressure power steering fluid hose to the power steering pump low pressure fitting. Be sure the hose clamps are properly reinstalled and hoses are clear of the accessory drive belts.
  5. Install the accessory drive belt.
  6. Install the hose on the power steering fluid return line on the front suspension cradle. Be sure the hose clamps and heat shield tubes are correctly reinstalled.
  7. Reconnect the exhaust pipe to the exhaust manifold. Install the hangers and isolators onto the exhaust system brackets. torque the nuts and bolts to 250 inch lbs. (28 Nm).
  8. Reconnect the wiring harness connectors to the oxygen sensor. Install the wiring harness grommet into the vehicle floor pan.
  9. Install the accessory drive belt splash shield.
  10. Remove the drain pan and lower the vehicle.
  11. Refill the power steering pump reservoir with the correct amount of clean power steering fluid.
  12. Reconnect the negative battery cable. Bleed the power steering system.
  13. Run the engine and check the system for leaks and proper steering operation.

3.3L (VIN R) & 3.8L (VIN L) Engines

  11. Remove the rear support bracket mounted behind the power steering pump to the engine block.
  12. Remove the 3 mounting bolts that secure the pump to the alternator/power steering pump and belt tensioner mounting bracket.
  13. Remove the power steering pump and pulley assembly from the vehicle. Transfer all required parts from the pump to the new replacement pump before installation.
To install:
  1. Position the front of the power steering pump up onto the mounting bracket. Torque the 3 power steering pump-to-mounting bracket bolts to 40 ft. lbs. (54 Nm).
  2. Install the rear power steering pump-to-engine block support bracket. Torque the support bracket mounting bolts to 40 ft. lbs. (54 Nm). Install the nut to the mounting stud behind the pump and torque to 40 ft. lbs. (54 Nm).
  3. Install the high pressure fluid line to the pump output fitting. Torque the high pressure line-to-power steering pump fitting to 275 inch lbs. (31 Nm). Be sure to inspect the pressure line O-ring for any damage before connecting the pressure line to the steering pump.

Power fluid leaks, profuslly!!!!!!

check the power steering hoses. from the pump.. there's a high pressure line...if this one gets a crack, it'll leak alot...it's under pressure, the return line is not under pressure but it can leak just the same... wipe the hoses down and run the car, you'll be able to find the leak... also check the pump housing...for cracks.
Hoses are available from local parts houses... be sure to refill with only recommended type of fluid...don't cross mix types.
