Starting issue with BMW 740iL

I have tried to start my car and it will not crank over. It continues to make a clicking sound. I tried to recharge the battery and that wasn't the problem (plus I just purchased a new battery in September of 08). What could this problem be.

This problem is caused by burnt contacts in the starter motor solenoid, this is part of the starter, the solenoid can be replaced separately but most people opt for a rebuilt starter

Neutral lockout switch or ignition switch if the car is an automatic. Switch on the clutch if it is a stick. If auto try starting it in neutral.

MY 325I would not start - when the key was turned, it would just make a clicking noize. I tried t jump start but that din't help. I did crank and continue to crank for a few day but slow. today it...

This definetly sounds like a battery issue......the clicking is the starter motor receiving current but not enought to turn, and when it did crank, there was not enough voltage to provide power for the injection sytem........I would first be either charging or replacing the battery.......and seeing if it starts.......Then if it starts, I would be checking the charging system and all power devices, to make sure the new/recharged battery does not go flat........Good luck

Hi, you must take off the crank shaft pully to access the water pump use # 13 mm socket or Torx socket (not sure wich one) to take off the crank shaft pulley bolts.
Good Luck!!

check battery cables.make sure they are not loose are or corroded.if battery cables okay.problem could be faulty starter - electronic immobilizer control - ignition switch + check its fuse first.if you disconnect battery cables besure to turn off radio so you wont lose code.

1998 bmw 740il will not start even with new a battery

If you checked all the fuses try putting the car in neutral sometimes the shifter gets misadjusted and wont start till the car is completely in park.If not check for a lose wire to the starter. If the car has an after market alarm you will have to turn it off before starting there should be a little buuton under the drivers dash or kick panel.GOOD LUCK
