Remove fuel filter from bracket

I am changing the fuel filter on a 1998 Chevy S-10. I have removed the lines, but I can't detach it from the bracket. It is stuck. Do you have any suggestions?

If it is a plastic bracket you can cut it and then it will come out. It will be little loose in the bracket but will hold it fine.

  • To install a new filter, begin by wiping the male tube ends of the new filter with a clean shop towel.
  • Apply a few drops of clean engine oil to the male tube ends on the filter.
  • Check the quick connectors to be sure the large collar on each connector has rotated back to the original position. The springs must be visible on the inside diameter of each quick connector.
  • Then install the filter in the proper direction and leave the mounting bolt slightly loose.
  • Install the outlet connector onto the filter outlet tube and press the connector firmly in place until the spring snaps into position.
  • Grasp the fuel line and try to pull this line from the filter to be sure the quick connector is locked in place.
  • Then, do the same with the inlet connector.
  • Now tighten the filter retaining bolt to the specified torque.

You may need to puchase a bracket with the filter also. it has the same filter as on a saturn coupe. the metal ones can be removed by putting on a metal vice and prying out the connection. Go to Utube and look up s10 fuel filter

Fuelfilter try to change fuelfilter and wont come

ou need a special tool to remove the fuel lines on your vehicle. Fortunately Ford had the wisdom to provide it to you. Here's how to do it.

    Removal:
Warning: because of the combustion characteristics of gasoline, always use extreme care when removing and installing any fuel system component or personal injury or damage to the vehicle may occur.

    1. Perform the fuel pressure release procedure.
    2. Raise vehicle on hoist.
    3. Remove push connect fittings at both ends of the fuel filter. NOTE: To remove 5/16" push-connect fittings, use Fuel Line Removal Tool T90T-9550-B or tool supplied on vehicle. Tool is located 254 mm (10 in.) behind fuel filter. Place in glove compartment after use.
    4. Install new retainer clips in each connect fitting.
    5. Remove fuel filter by pulling fuel filter toward center line of vehicle and free from fuel filter bracket. NOTE: The flow arrow direction should be positioned forward and downward to make sure of proper fuel flow through replacement fuel filter.

    Installation:

    1. Install fuel filter in fuel filter bracket, ensuring proper direction of flow.
    2. Install push connect fittings at both ends of fuel filter.
    3. Lower vehicle.
    4. Start engine and inspect for leaks.

    Need to replace fuel filter

The fuel filter is mounted on the floor pan just in front of the fuel tank Use compressed air or carburetor cleaner to clean any dirt surrounding the fuel inlet and outlet line fittings. Once all the dirt has been removed, twist the two lines a quarter-turn in opposite directions to loosen the fitting. Depress the white plastic quick-disconnect tabs and detach the inlet line from the fuel filter (see illustration [see comment below marked "#2"] ). Note: Have spare rags or a small container to catch or wipe up extra gasoline that will spill from the filter assembly. Use an open end wrench to steady the outlet side of the filter and a flare nut wrench to unscrew the fuel line nut, then separate the outlet line from the filter while noting the installed position of the O-ring. Using a flare nut wrench will help to avoid rounding the corners off of the fuel line nut. Detach the fuel filter mounting bracket bolt and remove the fuel filter. Installation is the reverse of removal. Note: Be sure to install a new O-ring on the outlet line before reassembling. "Squeeze the white plastic quick-disconnect tabs together and pull the inlet line (A) away from the filter, then detach the outlet line (B) from the fuel filter - unbolt the filter mounting bracket to remove the fuel filter".

Water in gas tank and fuel lines on a Chevy 1998 S-10......wont throttle up at all, will run at idle.....when throttle up it chikes itself out like it flooded...but will idle as low as 400rpm..have changed...

THERE IS NO SUCH THING AS A RESET SWITCH ON THE FUEL PUMP. IF YOU HAVE WATER IN THE FUEL SYSTEM THE ONLY THING YOU CAN DO IS REMOVE IT, PHYSICALLY. DROP THE TANK, CHANGE THE FUEL FILTER, REMOVE THE THROTTLE BODY, AND GET RID OF THE WATER. AND DON'T FORGET TO BLOW IT OUT OF THE FUEL LINES.

WATER MOLECULES ARE BIGGER THAN FUEL MOLECULES AND WILL NOT GO THROUGH THE FUEL INJECTOR NOZZLES. YOU MAY EVEN HAVE TO REPLACE THE FUEL INJECTORS IF THE WATER DID DAMAGE THEM.
