Hi from uk i am going to pass on to you an old remedy that a body spray painter passed on to me when i had a silver cortina 1600E in my youngr days and it does work ! if you obtain a tin of liquid metal polish ie brasso or carr day and martins metal polish pour a generouse amount onto a soft cloth then do a panel at a time ie front wing ? rub polish in straight lines only over panel apply firm pressure and be careful not to miss anywhere ? doing this removes all old wax polish and enhances the silver shine then wash panel with warm soap water of metal polish then leather or dry off ? you will feel the difference in texture of paint surface this requires lots of patience to do it right over all the cars body work afterwards use only wash wax liquid and rinse each wash not wax polish this remedy works magic on red painted cars that have turned pink matt ? using this method removes all old wax polish which has created pink due to sunlight as you may have noticed on other cars i hope you try this remedy at least on one panel? then look forward to your update/opinion on this ? best wishes from n/west uk

On a 2007 vw 2.0 passat where are the timing marks

If you're lucky there should be an arrow or notch on the rear cam cover near the cam sprocket and another mark on the cam sprocket itself. Otherwise there is a set of special tools to lock the crank and cam in place.

Here's so you can see:

Then use a paint pen to mark the crankshaft gear - some have one short too, some have a dot some have nothing hence the reason it's easier to mark it yourself.

Timing a 3.6

There are no timing marks.... There is a special tool that holds the camshafts in position. I never use that tool. I just use paint marks, marking the old timing belt to the pulleys, then transferring over marks to new timing belt. If you have never done it, you are taking a pretty big risk with this engine.

1999 VW Passat AC/heat doesn't work? The belt broke this summer? I was told should still blow heat even if no belt?

If you are talking about the belt for the ac compressor, yes the heater should still work.
If the blower is not working, you will need to have the blower motor checked for voltage and ground.

The paint on my '78 Ford Granada (silver metallic) is heavily oxygendized. I have used a quality rubbing compound to remove it; however, after I wipe off the compound, the paint is blotchy, streaked, and...

Good Evening, after you compound it good, I would tell you meguiars hand polish would be something to work with because it will put the oils back into the paint. That is only something a good polish will do, a good wax will just wax the surface to let the water bead up and come off easier. Hope this is helpful.

Need to find the markings for a 1999 vw passat

what markings are you refering to ? paint codes engine codeskook, ext.... if that is what you are refering to look into the owners manual in booklet 1.1 inside the cover page, there should be a 2 in x 3 in sticker there with all the codes. If you don't have owners manual or it wasn't filled out correctly there is a second copy of that sticker in the spare tire well. goodl luck
