Your evap charcoal canister is full from being overfilled. The biggest problem with "topping off" is that it can wreck the evap system.
This system collects gasoline fumes from the tank and routes them to the engine for combustion.
Overfilling could force raw gas to enter the system and prevent it from working right. It could also cause a condition where you have a hard time filling the tank, as the system can't properly relieve pressure from the tank and the gas pump's automatic shutoff keeps engaging.

You will need to replace the canister for the fix.

Thanks for using FixYa - a FixYa rating is apprecited!!

no, the filler tube simply has a flapper in it. The canister vent line is after the flapper. It's the built up gasses behind the flapper keeping it closed. It may have gotten saturated when removing the gas tank if it was removed full.

However, the part intriguing to me about this is that there is a EVAP purge solenoid on your vehicle, and if that malfunctions - you should get a CEL. Is it on? Have you had it on a OBD reader? It may be a good idea (especially if you are not the original owner) because the bulb may be out - or missing!!

Check that out & let me know!!

there is definately a flapper - a check valve. Its almost at the tank level. You cannot see it from the fill hole. The solenoid controls it. Check the solenoid for proper operation.... and for S&Gs put a code reader on it & see if the bulb is out.

The unrelieved back pressure is not allowing fuel to pass. Either a solenoid failure or canuster is full of gas instead of fumes. If you're handy, a temp fix is to disconnect the line going to the canister at the fill nozzle - but you'll have to relieve the pressure manually evey time you fill up. PITA!!

Is there some secret to getting the gas cap off of my sport back the no one told me about?

have you tried pushing down on the cap and then turning it counter clockwise? if so, you may have a vaporlock. for god sake dont try to pry it open with a screwdriver or anything like that.you might try to just push the cap to one side or another, that may let some air in the gas funnel. good luck.

Hi!!
The transmission fluid is poured thru the transmission dipstick tube, you'll need a small funnel to do this. Do not overfill.

Sounds like you may still have a charging issue. Most auto parts chain stores will check this for free. You should have the charging system checked.

FUEL FILTER

Most modern day fuel injected cars have the pump located inside the gas tank. It's the safest place to put it, it can't ignite any fumes because it's submerged in the liquid.
