Question about 1999 Pontiac Firebird

'99 pontiac firebird will not start

I thought it was battery, bought new one, doesn't start. took the alternator off and it was checked at autozone, it is good. could it be the electronic module? Is there something else I should try? I was thinking starter but wanted to ask questions before going that route.

we are having the same problem with our car. We replace battery and starter. It will start somtimes but once you turn the key off and try to restart will not do anything. You can remove the key and wait 10 seconds and reinsert and it will start. I suspect suspect the problem has to do with the security system and the ignition switch,

    Well, what exactly happens?
You say it will not start, but the battery seems fine.
Do you hear a click comming from the starter when you turn the key? Does it try to turn over, but nothing happens?

    What exactly is going on?

Why is my 1989 Pontiac Firebird hesitating and now wont turn over?

How long since a tune-up? Include air filter, fuel filter, gas injector cleaner...Also check the Idle Air Control valve on your 3.4 V-6...It can be dirty or clogged over time...Located on the air intake plenum...your auto parts store can also show you a diagram...Fuel pressure must be constant also, your Firebird is worth having the fuel pressure regulator checked, as well as the fuel pump...

Alternator may not be charging properly. Advance Auto and Autozone will remove and check your alternator free. Try that first.

sounds like you have no power(12v) going to the alternator.verify the single red wire @ alternator

It sounds like you need a new starter. If you hear the starter click when you turn the key to start, replace your starter since you already replaced the battery. You might want to have your alternator checked out, or when you get your car started, test the battery terminals with a multimeter. You should have around 14 volts with the car running. If not, you will need a new alternator. The alternator won't keep the car from starting though, unless the battery was drained because it wasn't charged. Even then it is the battery keeping the car from starting.

If the starter is not clicking, check your fuses under the hood. If all checks out, you may have a bad ignition switch.
