1996 ford tarus location of coolant temperatue sensor?

If this is bad will the service engine light come on. I have an overheating problem. Thermostat has been replaced and water pump is good. Guage inside car is halfway up, when car is cold and unused. Car overheats when driven, not while idling. Thanks , Have A Great Day!

I doubt if it is the temperature sensor if the gauge is working. Check to see if the fans are coming on when the engine is hot. The fans have two speeds and should come on in low speed and change to high speed as temperature gets hotter or when air conditioner is turned on. If they are working correctly. I would guess the radiator is partially plugged up between the air conditioner condensor and the radiator. These cars are bad about getting dirt, lint, and what ever trapped in this area.

The P0117 is a failure code for the engine coolant temp. sensor located on the rear of the bank1 cylinder head. This sensor measures the engine temp..The sensor on the coolant bottle is a different sensor. You will need to have this code diagnosed and repaired.

Location of coolant sensor 2000 ford tarus station wagon 3.0 liter v-6

Not sure I follow you.
The engine temp sensor sends a signal to the engine computer and the computer decides when to activate the fan relays. So if you have power to the fans you would also have power to the high or low speed relay the temp sensor is probably working. There is a third relay for the ground circuit.

My check engine light is on. Advance Auto Parts says it is the PO 325 Knock Sensor Malfunction Bnk 1 or Single Sensor. My Subaru is a 1996 Impreza. I also have a fast blinking left turn signal that...

  1. Knock sensor. Check all the wiring connections on the engine heads. Your sensor probably is failed (but see Overheating #3 below) .
  2. fast blinking left turn signal. The front bulb has failed, so replace it.
  3. oil temperature light. This may be an indirect result of #1, as the engine is not running properly and this can cause overheating (but see Overheating #3 below)
Other causes of overheating ...
  1. low oil level
  2. low coolant level. If you are losing coolant, the cause has to be located. The correct fill method is to top up the radiator, then repeatedly squeeze the top rad hose, to "burp" all the air out of the cooling system. You will hear the coolant squishing in the top of the engine. Keep burping until the coolant squishing noise stops.
  3. head gasket(s) may be failing, a not uncommon problem for your engine model. Check for oil in the coolant.

This is probably a coolant sensor failing and giving a false value making the fans come on late.Simple and cheap repair but install this sensor to a cold engine when servicing the cooling system

Will it stall if you keep your foot on the gas like the Idle speed is set low? Possible Idle speed motor? I'll have to look up the location of the low coolant sensor.

welcome to the world of owning a ford. after about 130,000 miles your check engine light will come on and stay on unless you reset your comps. but will come back on if the problem is real or the sensor is bad. see ford has it set up so that do it your selfers like me still ahve to pay them money some how. only ford can sell you a new sensor, and only ford knows where it goes. take it to a ford dealership and have the run a digagnostic on your car i bet uit's just a bad sensor.
