Question about 1997 Chevrolet Cavalier
I have a 1989 Cavalier Z24 with a 3.1 and it idles rough, hesitation when you accelerate, and a raw fuel smell coming out of the exhaust. I changed TPS sensor, IAC valve, MAP sensor, EGR valve, plugs and wires, and O2 sensor and i still can find the problem.
I have a1997 z24. Sometimes engine idle is ruff and hesitates on acceleration. Today oil started to spray from a sensor on the right side of my cams and emtied all the oil.
I had the same problem with my Z when i had it. But it worked when i just left the little hose off of the EGR valve.

It sounds to me that the sensor your talking about is the camshaft positioning sensor. It regulates how much fuel you get to your engine, so that is also why you have the fuel smell as well.
