The EXACT same thing happened to my 1997 yesterday. I have spent a lot of time researching the symptom and I have found it to be extremely common. It is always the exact same place, right by the plastic shield that is on the line under the drivers door. The pictures look like they could have been taken of my car, it is so similar of a location.

Apparently, the plastic shield traps salt and water which rusts the line. I have read that they redesigned this a few years ago because of this problem. The new design has plastic coating on more of the line. The area where the plastic coating is not used is where it rusts. A lack of coating plus the shield equals rust.

My plan is to replace a section of line. At this point, I'm planning the tools and materials that I need, but no one seems to know the diameter of the line. I do know that I will need to purchase a double flaring tool since mine only does a single flare and that is not good enough for brake line.

Need to know diameter so I will know which tool to purchase. There are SAE and metric size tools so it is important to know which one is correct.

EXACTLY the same problem on my 1997. I have researched this and found it is very common. There is a plastic shield on the line, under the drivers door. It traps salt and moisture that rust the line. The pictures that I saw look like they were taken of my brake lines.

The combination of not having the plastic coating on the line at that point, plus having the shield yields rust.

I am going to try to splice in a section of line, but I don't know the diameter of that line. Need to know the diameter in order to buy the right tool and materials. It takes a double flare and I only have a single flare tool. I don't even know if it is metric or SAE.

How easy is it to replace a leaking brake line under the driver's side door on a 1995 oldsmobile cutlass ciera?

In most cases on these older GM vehicles it is much easier to replace the lines from the master cylinder all the way to the rear wheels. You should be able to find brake lines that are preferred and have the correct fitting for what you need to do. Compression fittings are a definite No No!

some things to check ahead of time.
1. Do all the bleeder screws open? If not you may be replacing wheel cylinders and calipers.
2. Are the brake hoses cracked? If they are might as well replace them at the same time.
3. Are the pads and shoes in good shape. If they are getting thin might as week replace them as well.

Just about every GM that I get in the shop with rusted brake lines to the rear end up with a $800 +/- bill. 3 hours labor, 20+ feet of line, proportioning valves (later models), fittings, wheel cylinders. And a bleed and flush.

The lines don't have to look pretty they just have to work!

good luck and let us know how it goes.

Need to change the front drivers side brake line

I assume you have found a visual leak in the line or connection...Be sure to thoroughly soak both end connections with PB Blaster before tryting to loosen. You should purchase the replacement line fitting from your parts store to compare they are the same...(May be a dealer only part) This line connects to the brake caliper, and the frame. Unfortunately, you will need to bleed all brake lines after the switch out...Be sure to start with the right rear, then left rear, then right front...and finally the left front. You will need to refill the brake reservoir after the fluid bleed. Hope this helps.

1994 buick century brakes went out fluid leaking from rear

Brake lines by rear door on drivers side are a common failure point. lines under door failing can cause a total brake failure. Just replace and bleed the lines.

Put in brake fluid but cannot tell if there is a leak or not

After you put the fluid in the brakes start your blazer keep it in park or in nutral with the parking brake on and then push as hard as you can on the brake peddle using the steering wheel as leverage. This should pop any brake line that is leaking a little bit but not enough to pop any good lines. If the peddle slowly goes to the floor check undernieth the vehicle for any signs of leaking. If no signs of leaking look under the hood where the brake master cylinder is and check for any leaking around the mounting surface. If no leaks there check inside the vehicle where the brake peddle goes threw to the master cylinder for leaks on the inside, this does happen from time to time.

99 GMC Sierra Fluid Leak Immediately after Getting Oil Change

as an owner of three gmc sierras, i can attest that the brake lines that run along the frame rail under the master cylinder inherently rust away and break. I wouldnt neccesarily think it was tampered with. but do check the condition of all of the lines including the fuel lines for excessive rust.
