Question about 1994 Buick Century

1 Answer

For a car as old as mine, is it worth fixing the blown head gasket? How expensive is it? How difficult of a job is it? It's a 1995 Buick Century V6 3100 with an over head cam. Also, how do I know if the heads are aluminum? Are they machinable? Peace be with you God bless you all with car issues I hope you all can find a resolve too. Thank you. Henry Q

Yes the head is machinable and it will be relatively difficult to do if not much know is in that vehicle. it is worth it but may cost a 1000 or two to be done because of all the parts that need to be taken off and put back together. As well as the machining part.

1988 Plymouth Reliant - blown head gasket ... only 89,000 original miles ... worth fixing or what ?? How do I fix a blown head gasket ? new motor ?

If the body is solid and the rest of the car is in decent shape, certainly fix it. Your best bet would be to pick up a Haynes repair manual for your car. It will have all the info, with pictures and drawings that you will need to do the job, including torque amounts. It'll probably take you a couple days at most and the parts are not expensive, just remember that a head gasket has a TOP and a BOTTOM. Also make sure the new one matches identically to the old one, the same holes in the same places.

1995 buick century cooling fan doesn't work.

I have the 1999 Century and have finally found the Head Gasket is leaky coming out the exhaust. I have to pray for the temperature gauge to come down. The mechanic I go to finally put in nearly a quart of Head Gasket sealant and she ran fine for a couple months and I popped a hose. From here I asked him to put some more sealant in, yet it did not work. I needed coolant and the only way to put it in was to open a relief valve when it was getting hot while running and it took almost a whole gallon. Without knowing of this relief valve I would be dead. I've heard of a way to put a resistor in the coolant fan harness to turn it on earlier, does anyone out there have an answer to this. Thanks a million. DaveF1953@Yahoo.com

Water mixing with oil

Stop driving this car immediately to prevent further damage until you can have it evaluated. Your head gasket is blown. This will not get better and you cannot fix it yourself. If the engine is high mileage, it may not be worth repairing. I would guess the minimum repair bill on this to be $1000.00.

Why do my coolant keep running out

If you have a 3.1L or 3.4L V6 engine, I can guarantee you have either an intake manifold gasket leaking, internally, or the rear head gasket is leaking externally. They are extremely prone to coolant leaks for both. Get it checked out soon, the head gasket job can cost upwards of $1000.00. The intake leak is half of that if caught in time.

If it is head gasket problem how much does it cost to fix and is it worth fixing. a friend of mine checked it out and said all i need is a turbo rebuild kit and that should fix my problem

A turbo rebuild kit has absolutely nothing to with a head gasket. I don't know if you are planning on doing this job yourself, but a Volvo is a Swedish made car and the price for parts can get really expensive. If you are going to take it to a mechanic to get it fixed the labor alone will cost more than the part itself. Also when changing a head gasket you needto make sure that your head isn't cracked. I'm not sure of the year and condition of your vehicle, so I can't really tell you if it's worth fixing or not.

What other chrysler engines can you use on a 1997 Chrysler Concorde found an engine on ebay want to know if I can use it. Blown head gaskets on mine.

U don't scrap an engine for blown head gaskets, it is not that big a job if this is a 3.5 liter, and any 3.5 will work.

96 buick century leaking anti freeze from timeing cover

You will need to remove the timing cover and replace the gasket set. it is the timing cover gasket that is leaking and yes it is fairly common, once fixed it should not reoccur. It is not a horribly expensive repair, but mine on a 96 regal cost about $200 to have replaced. The decision is up to you as to whether it is worth it, based on your vehicles miles, and condition.
