If the noise is coming from the side of the engine where the fuel injectors are, the faint tick from the injectors is normal. If that is not the location of the noise, a stethoscope from an auto parts store will come in handy. Check your oil level. If it is where it is supposed to be, then it is probably not your lifters. If the noise is coming from the lifters, run some motor flush through the engine and start using a better grade of oil (no house brand, Pennzoil, or Quaker State). If it is not from the lifters, then check along the edge of the oil pan with the stethoscope for clunking in the crank case. If it is coming from the crankcase, you probably need new main and rod bearings. Drop the pan, remove the bearing caps, and check the crank surfaces for abnormal wear. If the bearing surfaces look good, you can buy undersized bearings (such as 0.001" undersized) to install on the main and rod bearings.

I have a 2003 Subaru Forester (123,000Km) and

If it is a piston or other bad noise it will not go away. If this is what is happening then a good auto mechanic will have to listen to and isolate the noise before they can tell how much it will cost to fix it. Its usually not the piston. If after the car runs for a little while the noise gos away its usually dirt in the engine. Before you think about a very expensive repair try this.Change the oil and filter. Use only good quality oil and a Fram TG or a Purolator Pure One oil filter. My car likes the Castrol Sin Tec Synthetic oil. Yes synthetic cost more but it is better oil.
Let the car warm a little before you drive it every time you start it cold.
Dont let someone drive your car when you are not in the car. I know someone who has a son that was raceing his car when his son told him he was going to the library.
Do your next oil and filter change only after 2000-3000 miles. Then after that no more than 4000 miles between changes.Be nice to your car.
All this I am telling you is only if your noise gos away after tap tap as you said right after you start your car.
I hope this info helps you.

Engine has knocking noise. Oil is good. Started

Engine knock Huh? In order to qualify the term "Knock", Let me get you to perform some simple task/observation. Typically, if you hear a noise on top of your motor that can be described as a light knock, usually going tap, tap, tap, tapping along at double the tempo, of your motor spinning, Your oil pump may be having trouble getting oil to the top where the valve's and rocker arms are. If you hear a "Knock" by bending over or kneeling beside one of your "front wheel well's"and stick your head up to the well, providing a vantage point to "hear" whats going on at the lower part of the engine. A knock from here will/can indicate a potentially overheated, under lubricated, rod or crank bearing that could seize the motor. This (theretical) crank bearing would be sounding off at half the tempo of the rocker arms above., with a deep, dark klunk that would defintly present itself as the sort of noise that damages metal parts. Now, that being said.....common sense goes a long way, people....1.) Most people are aware of the maintenance that has been performed on a particular engine, the quality and quantity of that maint. and when the last time it was ran out of oil or water. For those who fall into the " lack of maintenence" catagory, you probably already know why your engine or driveline sound as it does. If you happen to take particulary good care of your car, there is a good chance that whatever noise or "happening" might be going on, it'll be much easier to remedy. There are always exceptions to every rule. Remember, its not what will happen, it's what can happen. Take care of your car, and it will take care of you. Theroad

I brought accent DLS ,i wouid like to check engine health

step 1: remove the valve cover///step 2: if you see nice gold color around the rods, lifters, and valves and you do not see any black sludge in between the lifters the engine is pretty clean and will also tell you if the car religiously has been getting its oil change every 3k. Also start up the car; listen for tapping noises BUT MAKE SURE YOU HAVE THE VALVE COVER ON. If you dont hear any abnormal tapping noises then your engine is solid. Try to stay away from arco or cheap gasoline. shell, mobil, and CHEVRON is really good gas for the engine.

MOTOR HAS ENGINE NOISE (TAPPING) AND SLIGHT POWER LOSS.

have your oil pump and oil sending unit checked....
the noise you are hearing is going to be from the engine not having enouph oil to either the top or the bottom of the engine.
If you do not have enouph oil getting to either part of the engine than you will loose compression and compression makes you move. i would start there
