Oil Lamp Indicator in instrument panel stays lit (1997 Camery)

Had my oil changed at wal mart and a couple of days later the "Oil Lamp" indicator on instrument panel became lit and will go on and off at different times. I checked the oil level and it is ok.

Toyota had a problem with sludge build-up in these engines. When the oil was changed it probably freed up enough gunk to cover the oil pump pick-up in the oil pan. You must get the pan removed and have the pick-up cleaned now! This is a common problem, google: "toyota engine sludge"

It's a really a good idea to run synthetic oil in any toyota or chrysler engine as it is not as susceptible to this kind of degradation.

I would go back to Walmart and have them fix it for free. I suspect it's a bad oil filter. If you hear engine knocking or noise, don't drive vehicle.

Oil pressure guage not registering

The oil pressure gauge on a 2004 WJ doesn t really show the pressure, but it will go to a preset value when pressure is ok, or it will stay at o PSI. So you need a pressure switch on this jeep and not a pressure sending unit. If the right unit is installed, then or the pressure indicator is faulty, or wiring. Do a test of the instrument panel to see if the indicator works: ignition switch in off, press the odometer reset button and now switch ignition in run. Instrument panel will start a self test, all lights will come on and all meters will go full scale and return to normal.
