Youve got a short!!!!
with the car off and everything turned off
disconect the postive battey cable,if you get an arc then youve got a short
hook it back up and pull one fuse
then disconect the battery again
repeat this process till you dont get an arc
then you will find where your short is

if you didnt see arc then check for a lose wire at the starter it may be going over and touching block also i had a van in here a few months agothat no one could find the short will i found it in 3 min

it was the door light switch grounding out but not enough too set off and arc or ativate the dome lights so you may want too check your door switchs

I have a 1986 Cutlass Supreme. The car has set fro several years. I replaced the battery and drove it several weeks before having a charging problem. The meter showed that it was not charging. I replaced...

Taking the battery off when car is running causes voltage spikes that can damage electronics, so it is strongly recommended that it not be done. Possibly, there is a fusible link blown out. It would be between the alternator and battery, keeping the alternator from charging the battery, and keeping it from powering the electric system.

I replaced the Alternator on my 1986 Oldsmobile Cutlass Ciera and The battery is not holding a charge. What could be causing this?

Providing there is no trunk light, or glove box light or anything else that is staying on, the biggest culpret for draining batteries is the starter. Try replacing it with one from an auto wrecker, just in case it isn't the problem.
Make sure there are no power cables or wires burnt or cracked somewhere that are draining the battery.

In my 1986 Fire bird the alternator and battery both test good in the part store alternator charged at 94 amps, but when put in the car together the battery is not charging it is draining. We have replaced...

You need to find out what is causing the drain-have you recently installed an amp?

A way to find the drain is to hook up a digital voltage meter to the battery and remove fuses, one by one, until you pull one that STOPS the lowering readings-if it is draining a good battery in 1/2 an hour, it has to be something pretty significant and should be relatively easy to find this way.

Also, be wary of a 'good' battery-did they load test it? How old is it? You can buy a tester that checks specific gravity of the sulfuric acid in each cell, and it would show a weak cell that might be the very reason you are having these problems.

The cars is draining the battery so what is wrong

Make sure your not leaving any lights on when the car is off.. check the wiring at the battery and also at the Alternator to see if any connectors are lose... Also get your Alternator checked it good be defective and not able to recharger your battery anymore.

The battery drains until it cannot start the car if it sits for 12 hours or more. I purchased the battery a year and a half ago and have taken it back for testing and it's good to go. The alternator seems...

You need to have a test light,,,they are cheap to buy, purchase one ,and remove the negative battery terminal from the battery.Connect one end of the test light to the cable(the clip)And touch the tip of the test light to the post on the battery, the negative, and with the doors closed, and no hood light in the socket, with everything else off,the test light should not come on,if it does, there is a draw on the battery, try unplugging the alternator plug, see if the light goes off,if it does, the alternator is bad, then try pulling one fuse at a time, until the light goes off, this circuit will be the problem, remember to pull the fuse for the dome lights, cause you will have the door open,I have see clock radios draw voltage like this, and alternators also,If this helps, please let us know, thank you.

1994 Oldsmobile Cutlass Ciera Battery Draining

yes. You just need an honest, qualified mechanic. I'm not saying your last mechanic was not qualified, but any mechanic should know how to search and test for an unintended drain. Sounds like that is what you have.

Go on youtube and watch videos of "unintended, or parasitic drains"-there are hundreds of them. Any mechanic with a good multi-meter should be able to find it pretty quick-within an hour or two.
I wouldn't worry about the AC-your car is too old for it-too easy to have problems with a car that old, although if you have enough money, you can do anything. Just saying it would be expensive. The window problem is not an expensive fix, probably needs a new window motor. yours probably has worn brushes. The rear defroster is easy to troubleshoot with a multi-meter. Keep at it and you will have a good car.

Car battery keeps draining while running charge light staying on just replaced alternater and battery

Test Voltage @ the back of alternator, and all grounds to body and engine.

If you have 14+ @ back of alternator but 12 @ battery the wire off the back (Im talking abought the single larger one) may be broke
