Car wont start, makes a clicking sound under the hood

With no warning my 1996 nissan Infinity G2O would not start. You can hear a **** clicking noise under the hood. I had a couple of friends check it out who thought it might be the starter cylonoid but said that they think it is the clutch sensor. What do you think? my truck wont start. I replaced the battery due to bad cell. The solenod located on fender clicks once when i turn the key. but the starter does nothing. I have juice at the dash. I replaced the solenoid on fender but still same problem. just a click... will not start...

Nissan: Is the clicking sound loud like a solenoid or mild like a relay? Use a test light to see if your getting juice to the solenoid. Also might want to check for juice in and out of the clutch switch while your at it.

Truck: Check for juice at the starter. If the new solenoid is clicking, it's probably working, so the next thing to check is for juice at the starter. If yes, then disconnect the battery and drop the starter and have it tested. If it's not the starter, pull the spark plugs out and try turning the engine by hand with a braker bar and socket on the harmonic balancer. Is there any reason to suspect that the enging might be siezed up?

Try replacing the starter it may be bad, its not your clutch sensor if it was it would do nothing at all. try turning your motor over by hand the starter gear maybe stuck to the flex plate or push start the truck, shut it off and then try to start it if i does nothing but click replace the starter then

I unplugged my battery and I can hear something ticking fast, when I pull out fuses under the hood (main fuses) noises change..

could be the solenoid on the starter motor clicking, or sometimes there is just enough battery power to put lights on but higher drain items just click on & off trying to cut in, test the battery output voltage should be at least 12v to start, a fully charged battery will be 13.5v, under 12v is no good.

I have a 1996 Ford Taurus GL I was driving home from work about 2 weeks ago the car started up and ran everything's fine going to work but on my way home it started up fine and everything but literally...

If you knew why it stopped running in the first place, you may find out why it wont do anything at all now.
When you say it won't turn over, you do mean , when you turn the key, nothing happens, right ? Does the starter engage at all ? Does something click under the hood ? Any noises ? Can you hear the fuel pump whirring ?

I hear a high pitch sound in the engine compartment that starts when I start the car. With the car still in park, the noise does increase when I step on the accelerator. While driving the noise is in sync...

sounds like you need to replace the idler pully and maybe the tens. pully. and that will solve your sounds problem. whats happening is the bearings are bad and thats what you hear

When you turn the ignition key to the start position you apply 12 volts to the solenoid. The solenoid is a relay switch that closes when you turn the key to the start position. When it closes It applies 12 volts to the starter motor. The starter motor draws a lot of electrical current, (so much so that they could not run that current thru the ignition switch, so they use the solenoid) What you hear clicking is the solenoid closing, or trying to close.I assume that "*****clicking" as you define it is a chatter rather then one click.

Possible causes: A low battery voltage. Has the battery been replaced in the last few
years few years. Try charging over night and see what happens
Bad connections on the battery terminals. Check for any white powder on and around the battery terminal. Use baking soda and water to clean the terminals (it'll fizz) then clean theem with a terminal brush. You can get one at any auto store
Bad connection on the starter solenoid
If it a manual shift, there is usually a kill switch somewhere on the shift mechanism
that prevents the starter from working if the car is in gear and the clutch is out
In automatic shifter the kill switch is in the shift selector mechanism so you can't start the car unless you are in park.

Hope this helps Lood luck Loringh
