Question about 2000 Ford Expedition

How do you change the spark plugs in a 2000 ford expedition 4.6L, without taking all of the hoses out? It is very tight the closer you get to the firewall. The fuel rail and injectors makes it very tight. I changed the first one one the passenger side, but on the second one , i got everything out but when it came to pulling out the plug it kept falling back in the hole. It is at an awkard angle so you can' pull it straight out. Also the fartther to the back of the engine you get the harder it gets. Please Help!!

Since you have one plug out already, get a foot long piece of rubber hose that will fit tightly over the white part of the plug. use it to take the plugs out of that deep hole. use the socket to loosen and tighten the plug and use the hose to extract and insert the plug.
and the last thing to remember dont let any dirt or debris to fall into the opening.

What cause the 2000 expedition to run ruff and hesitate on acceleration

There are many things that can cause this. It could be a stretched or jumped timing chain, low fuel pressure, a bad TP sensor, a faulty MAP sensor, a bad MAF sensor, intake manifold gasket, internal engine damage, or a clogged catalytic converter. I would start with checking compression to rule out internal engine problems. If compression is good on all cylinders next check fuel pressure. If these 2 areas are ok, perform a backpressure test to rule out a restricted exhaust.

This is one of the longest repairs I have ever done on just changing spark plugs! A dealership will charge you $200 and up for this job. They take between 2-4 hours labor!

How to change spark plugs

Start off by making sure the engine has had time to cool down because the spark plugs will also be warm. Remove any engine covers then take off the spark plug wires by pulling on them. Ensure there are no screws holding them in. Next you should see the spark plugs. There should be 8 according to the amount of cylinders there are. Simply screw them out with a socket on an extention. The socket is usually 17mm but may be bigger/smaller. They may be tight but should come out and then screw the new ones in. Make sure you do not get any dirt into where the spark plug goes. Continue this for all 8 and ensure they are fairly tight but do not over tighten them. Then push the spark plug cap back onto the spark plug until it clicks on and rebuild what was taken off before.

What has to be taken off to change all 8 coils on 2000 ford expedition

actually nothing. what ford has are called "cips" coil in plug. i just changed my spark plugs out. the spark plug is covered by the "cip". the back 2 near the firewall on both side are a royal pain. forgot to say that each cip is held into place by one bolt (i think its a 10mm bolt). this job will take about 4-6 hours. a faster technique is to unbolt fuel rail and gently pry up the injectors this willl give you more work space. i am willing to bet your plugs are bad and not the "cips". if you are going to change the cip then do the plugs also. the cips run for about 60 to 80 bucks a pop.

Ther is no coil "PACK" on your engine. Each plug has its own coil. Each one is held in place by a single 8mm head bolt that screws into the intake plenum. To change them you simply disconnect the electrical connector, remove the bolt and pull the coil and spark plug boot up out of the spark plug tube. (Reverse proceedure to install.)

Is it hard to change the spark plugs in my 2000 expedition triton v8

5.4 triton, spark plugs are under valve cover have to disconnect harnesses and make room to remove cover pull bolts from cover, unbolt coil from each plug change plug reinstall coil, then change valve cover seal and rebolt down, reconnect harneses and then u realize u have other side to do still... yes one of hardest plugs to change in any vehicle

Where is the heater core hose in my 2000 ford expedition?

check closer to just underneath the firewall--it could be a smaller problem than a heater core--Ford 4.6--5.4 engines have a tube just underneath the intake manifold that the rubber hose goes bad and it will leak towards the back of the engine.Lets hope so-what i hear its very expensive to change a heater core in an Expedition.

Changing spark plugs

Changing the spark plugs on a 1997 Ford Expedition 5.4L engine takes patience. Remember to start this project on a cold engine! I started on the passenger side by locating the Coil over iginition coils and cleaned out all the old dirt using some compressed air. Then I had to disconnect the electrical connections to both the Coil over ignition coils and the passenger side fuel injectors. Once you remove the small bolt which holds the ignition coil in place, use your compressed air again to blow out the spark plug hole. After that, you will need a 5/8" swivel spark plug socket and various length extensions to remove the spark plugs. Take your time because there is not much room for your hands. Before installing the new plug, check the gap and use clean engine oil on the new threads. Tighten the new spark plug and reinstall the coil over ignition coil. Reconnect the electrical connection to both the ignition coil and the fuel injector. Continue these steps with all eight spark plugs. You will find the ones on the drivers side are difficult because of the fuel rail gets in your way. Have patience and use swivel extensions to work around the tight spaces. When you are done, you will have saved lots of money! Don't forget to replace your air filter, fuel filter, and pcv valve to complete your tune up.
