Question about 2008 Ford F-250 Super Duty

2 Answers

Bad MPG I just purchased a 2005 F250 FX4 Superduty 6.0L Diesel with an automatic transmission. The truck has 100,000 miles on it and is completely stock. It runs GREAT and has plenty of power! No smoke whatsoever, turbo builds and holds 10 to 30 psi. easily with no boost leaks. However I am only getting 11 to 14 mpg. on the highway empty. I don't have a lead foot and I excellerate moderatly to conserve fuel but to no avail. The transfer case and front hubs are properly disengaging the front end and the tires are properly inflated. Occasionally it seems like the engine cranks about 2 seconds longer than I feel is normal before the engine fires, but there is still no white/gray or other smoke. Could it be that my injectors are bad? I know this was a very common problem on the original 6.0L Powerstrokes. I have used injector cleaner additive and it made no difference. Thank you for your time and advise. TOM

Try some of the Lucas product for diesel engines,
diesels are made for hard work/pulling. not for fuel economy
the best thing you can do is to keep the fuel filter changed as often or sooner than the manual recommends. it will be the heart to a happy diesel

Ford f250 superduty turbo diesel 7.3L Will not crank

Charge the batteries. take a Reading to make sure that you are getting almost 14v to both batteries. If it is not charging then take the alternator back off and have them check it. you might have bought a bad one. There is a way to test the glow plus with out taking them out. ( Take a piece of wire long enough to reach all the glow plugs from the battery. unplug the glow plug wire.If you touch the end of the glow plug with the hot wire it should make a little spark. if no spark then the glow plug is bad. do this to each one, but one at a time)
