How do I add transmission fluid to a 1986 mercury lynx 2 door ??

4 speed AOD Total Fill 12.3 quarts dont add all but add slowly 1qt till at level line then add little at time do not overfill

If you need to add fluid, just pour it in the tube that the transmission dipstick is in. Be sure to check it when the transmission fluid is fully warmed up and DO NOT overfill.

There is a dipstick in the transmission down by the radiator. It is yellow in color. You add the fluid thru the dipstick hole. Check the fluid with the engine off.

please DO NOT ADD TRANS FLUID TO A MANUAL BOX.
on the side of the box you will see a square bolt head,this is the filler/level plug,remove it and, if required, fill with ep90 gearbox oil until it overflows,when it stops dripping replace plug.

You fill it through the dipstick tube with a funnel.

did you try shifting it manually by pulling the shift lever back to "1" then move up to "2" then finally "D"?

I think those old ATX transmissions had a governor that can be changed from the top of the trans without removing it. I think it is held in by a couple of bolts. Clean it with carb cleaner first. Easy repair.

on top of the transmission there is a white plastic cap with a clip that holds it on. inside there is a governor assy that might be sticking or the gear might be worn.

At about 140,000 miles it would run a few miles and all of a sudden shut off. Turns out it was a bad computer. After replaced, never happened again. No other problems with this car.
