04 Jetta thermostat light is on and RED...

My car for the past couple of weeks felt like it wouldnt excel when i pressed the gas. Then one day the theromostat light came on and was red and the car started to smoke from both sides of the engine real bad. They hooked it up to a machine and said there was a blockage in my radiator and I needed a new thermostat and my car wasnt excelling because the car was in ''safemode''1100$... Does this all sound like the right diagnosis. For my own reasons I dont trust them...

I would say youmight need a new thermostat but the rest of what they are saying sounds made up like they are just out to get your money

Could possibly be the results of bad gas (old, stale)from sitting.Gas has a tendency of breaking down over a long period of time. Also could be a glogged fuel filter. Some models have an in line filter or it could be in the fuel tank. Also possibly water in fuel tank from sitting try adding dry-gas to fuel .

Ask the mechanic that told you what the problem was,
the cost to repair

Why did you not leave it to be resolved?

I guess you have no idea the purpose of a check light or never think to check for codes, to get some idea of the issues

You don't drive around for 2 days let alone 2 months with a check light on, or someday you will damage the car

Gas treatment is a waste of your money

You won't benefit from a few onces of any product in
many gallons of fuel, common sense, or see that in any
manufacturer recommendation ever

2000 Jetta vr6 starts but once in D or R it sputters and stalls

Your problems are unrelated to the stalling. I suspect you may have an air leak in one of the intake hoses. Look around the LH (gearbox side of the engine) for loose pipes. There are a myriad of (small)vacuum hoses which tend to disconnect themselves.

Hello - I just bought a 2004 Jetta - day one - mil light came on. Car runs fine. What could it be? 2 mechanics checked the car over before I bought it and carfax said it was one owner no problems.

Have VW check it out. I had just got my 04 GLI with 70,000 miles when the light came on. The thermostat triggered the light and so I had the whole timing belt, thermostat, and water pump service. Worth the money.
