Question about 2000 Ford Focus

1 Answer

Temp gauge goes into RED at 3000 revs and/or under load/acceler..

New radiator and hoses fitted, but still goes into red on gauge, unless very
gentle acceleration.everything to do with water circulation seems ok,
fan seems to kick in soon after car gets going, and stops soon after idling, say,in standing traffic which is when it should come on I would have thought! I'm thinking maybe cht sensor or ECU ?

Sounds more like a weak spring in the thermostat....not keeping the thermostat open fully under high water flow (like in higher rpms)

My 2006 Caravan temperature gauge goes to red - engine is not overheating. Kick it into a lower gear (automatic trans) and the gauge comes back down. Is it likely the coolant sensor?

Could be.. is the system FULL? Air in it can cause some odd things. When engine and coolant are COLD (as in after sitting over night), open the radiator cap. Top off the overflow res with a 50/50 antifreeze / water mixture to HOT mark. Start engine, turn heat to hot and fan to high. Top off RADIATOR with same 50/50 mixture slowly & gradually. As the coolant circulates, it should bring any AIR trapped in the system (from heater core & engine block) to the radiator where you can replace it with the 50/50 mix. Once the coolant is HOT and stays level - about an inch under the opening, close the radiator. Monitor the overflow res and add as needed. Good luck!

1996 jeep cherokee temp gauge reads hot 10 mins. after start-up

If you have a viscous fan hub then have it replaced as it is not drawing air through the radiator at idle or slow speed (crawling traffic). Check that are no air locks in the system as they will cause heating problems.

'02 venture temp gauge goes to red but the lower hose temp is 115 and upper hose is 200, would this be a temp gauge sending unit gone bad?

SINE YOU HAVE DIFFERENT TEMPERATURE ON THE UPPER RADIATOR HOSE FROM THE BOTTOM HOSE,MEANS THAT YOU DO NOT HAVE A GOOD COOLANT CIRCULATION AND THIS MIGHT CAUSED EITHER FROM FAULTY THERMOSTAT,AIR IN THE COOLING SYSTEM,OR BLOGGED RADIATOR.

I drive a 2006 dts which i've had for 1 year. A week after I had the car the temperature gauge went to red when I was in traffic. I took it to cadillac, they replaced the engine, radiator and hoses

Temp is going up, well that doesn't mean anything unless it actually overheats, in traffic it can reach 240 F and present no danger of engine damage. If this is not the case DO NOT DRIVE THIS UNTIL THE PROBLEM IS FOUND AND REPAIRED UNLESS YOU WANT TO BUY ANOTHER ENGINE JOB.

2000 Chevy Impala - Temperature gauge goes into the red quickly. I had cooling fan assembly replaced 2 months ago because car temperature gauge used to go into the red and sometimes stall.

yea they are right right undo the hoses from the coolant container to to the radiator and the hose from the radiator to the engine and let it all drain out then put it back on and put some new radiator fluid in the radiator until ist full and then put some more in the container for extra make sure to put both hoses back on

Starts normally, engine temperature goes up to the N(normal) position and if I drive it on traffic it keeps going up until the red mark. Already removed thermostat and no change. After starting the engine...

Check the water pump and also check the radiator for blockage, make sure that fluid pours out the bottom of the radiator with the lower hose disconnected

Dash temp guage goes to red on 2000 ford focus dohc zetech

Because you have done so many repairs already I would most likely say that the gauge is defective. I would use a manual temp probe and probe the coolant temp after the car has reached operating temp. Coolant will be between 180- 230 degrees. If coolant temp checks out and you can see coolant moving in radiator and the vehicle does not overheat then you will need either a gauge or a coolant sensor. To locate the sensor it should either be mounted in the thermostat goose neck housing or the intake manifold.

The temp gauge on the instrument panel was

Sounds like the radiator is clogged, have the cooling system flushed, the water pump pumps water into the engine and it comes out the top hose to return to the radiator to circulate through it to cool, if the radiator is clogged the water pressure will build on the top hose, also look at the bottom radiator hose, if it collapses when you rev the engine the radiator is clogged, although sometimes the bottom hoses are reinforced with wire to prevent them from collapsing so just because they do not collapse it does not mean the radiator is not clogged.

Only blows cold air from vents even when temperature gauge set to red for hot air.

Temperature gauge should not be in the red unless you are talking about the temp control. Check hoses to heater core for a temp difference once the vehicle has reached operating temp. If a big differenced is noticed heater core may be plugged and may have to be flushed or replaced. Do the same with radiator hoses could also be a thermostat
