1997 ford thunderbird colling fan runs when engine is cold

If the radiator fan runs with the engine is cold and the ac - defrost is off, you would need to check the fan relay and see if it is getting a ground signal from the computer.
The computer grounds the relay when the fan is needed.
The fan will run anytime the ac compressor is engaged.

I have a 2002 mitsubishi lancer es and the colling fans aren't coming on. i've been told to replace the fuses but i do not know what fusus need to be replaced and do not have a owners manual to check.

there is no fuse, but there is a controller and a relay. First check the relay in the engine compartment relay box. With the engine hot and running, pull the relay out of it's socket. It should click off. If it does, the fan or fan controller is probably bad. If it doesn't, check to make sure there are 2 hot terminals in the relay socket. See my post at if you're not sure how to check a relay socket.
If there are 2 hot terminals and the relay does not click when plugged in, the relay is bad.

If you get stuck or have more questions, please let me know.

1999malibuoverheating.was sucsessful in venting air from systym.drove car for a day with no problems.son took it on hiway 65-70mph car overheated lost coolant

The first thing is to make sure there are no coolant leaks, and next run the engine and feel both top and bottom hoses as it starts to run hot, if both hoses are not about the same (meaning hot) then you have a bad thermostant, if both hoses are hot then you may have a problem with the colling fan, most of the time its a bad thermostant or theres a leak in the system.

Hi, problem with my bmw is engine getting too hot after 15 mins driving, i checked colling system and egine oil, everthing is fine but one thing i realised the engine fan does not kick in when engine get...

Try checking any fuses and relays related to the cooling fans, replace the relays if your not sure if they are bad. The testing on that may be a little involved as there are a number of things that factor in controlling those fans and when they turn on and off. may be in cheaper for you to just have it diagnosed at a reputable repair shop.

93 villager runs good, but temp. gauge runs up to the hot line, but never runs hot. is the a colling fan that should go on.

the cooling fan should come on low speed and then high speed as it gets hotter.

The fan should come on anytime the a/c clutch engages, even cold engine.
3 cooling fan realys in battery box in front of battery. controlled by signal from engine coolant sensor. siganl from engine computer.

I have a 1998 pontiac grand am se, and i have had to replace my radiator several times in 2 days and each time i replace it it leaks in the same place. I am wondering what could be causing this problem...

is your engine running hot? did they replace it with new radiator or just patch it up. I only reason why your car do what it does is that the radiator is building up too much pressure and not circulating through the engine. replace the thermostats and the switch along making sure you colling fans is working. does the fan run at all when the engine is hot? turn your ac button off so that way the ac fan is not running. see if you cooling fans kicks on when idling long period, watch your temperature, don't let it get hot, if it does turn it off and have the fan check and the water pump; change thermostat and the switch if you haven't had it done.

My radiator fan dose not come on. it overheats. honda civic

Go to & get a wiring diagram & a component location for the colling fan temp sensor. When the engine is hot or you turn the a/c on you should have power to the fan. If not, check the fuses under the hood, those are the mains. Write back if you need more.
