they could but it would rip your transmission apart, you would also have to tear the tranny down to do it,in that fact your should just get another tranny or gear,is the guy a tranny expert?

Engine light comes on and stays on 2000 mercury cougar

Retrieve fault codes using a diagnostic scan tool. This will tell you what exactly the problem is. You either have to go to a dealer or a mechanic who has the scan tool.

My engine light came on. I have a 2000 2.5 liter 6cyl automatic Mercury cougar. We put a code reader on it and the printout has these codes PO708 Transmission Range Sensor Circuit High Input P1702...

If it has to do with the transmission then yes it prolly will be very costly. My best advise to you is to get an est. from a shop an see if its worth the price

Battery light stays on 2000 mercury cougar with v6 engine battery light stays on

Your alternator isn't putting 14 volts out to the battery. Check the stator wire on the alternator and the 3 wire plug make sure there is no gap on any of the alternator connectors and they are on VERY firm!

Hook up a multimeter inside your car and watch the battery voltage! if under 14volt you got an alternator problem!

99 Mercury Cougar has reverse but no forward gears

check the oil lever in the transmisson assuming it's automatic, if the fluid level is fine then with it in gear running and the brake on look to see if the drive shaft is turning, if it is then you have a prboblem with the drive shavft depending on engine size and wheather it's front or rear wheel drive. if it's not turning then you have a transmisson problem. If this is helpful please rate.
