I would suspect your key to be a duplicate key that you had made. I have seen this before. The OEM keys have something built-in to them that allows them to work. (I don't how they make them.) This was a theft protection issue so devious people that might have access to your keys somehow couldn't duplicate your key and steal your vehicle when your back was turned.

1997 f350 with 460 just clicks when trying to start

If you are getting a single loud "click" when turning the key to the START position, you most likely need to replace your starter. If you are getting a rapid "click-click-click" when you turn the key, you probably have a low battery or a bad battery cable.

I have a 97 ford van and I lost the keys how can I get the ignition out without the keys

Go to the dealer and for I think $60 they will make a new key, trying to remove the cylinder without the key just tears things up and never works right after that, you will need the VIN code, a lock smith is around $150 - $300

It does not start at all

Has to crank with energy, clean the terminals and jump start check the spark on plugs, check i gas gets to the injectors, try to spray air cleaner hole with starting fluid,if truck starts and runs for 2 to 3 seconds, you have a fuel pump problem or a bad fuel filter, if truck does not start with starting fluid than You my have a timing problem or ignition coil, key, but the motor has to turn fast enough

under the cylnder is a very small hole. put the key in the switch and turn it until all the dash lights come on. then take a very still object like a small punch and push it in the small hole and pull out the ignition switch. sometimes u might have to hit the punch to push in the button.
