2000 LS cooling system is a very tough system to diagnosis. Any kind of air in system will totally stop the flow and cause it to heat. That is the reason it has 2 places to bleed the air from the system. The one at the engine where the upper hose connects and one beside the brake booster near the degas bottle(rubber tube with a screw end).
The cooling fan is also hydraulic and has it's own power steering pump.
The good thing about this system is that it uses a cylinder head temp sensor that measures the metal temp and not engine coolant temp. When the PCM sees the CHT reach a certain temp it will start shutting down 4 cylinders at a time and use these cylinders as actual air pumps to help cool the engine down.If this does not work it will then shut the engine down totally until the temps come back down.

The most common problems we see are thermostats, crack degas bottle,or a leak somewhere, and of course air in the system. Have not seen a cracked head yet however did see one that pushed the plug out of the cooling port in the head but this also filled the oil with coolant.
Have also seen cooling fans that would not work until PCM demmanded high speed, caused by a weak power steering pump.

2000 Lincoln LS V6, heat works while idling, Heat does not work once driving.

is your temperature gauge drop closer to "C" when the vehicle is moving at high speeds?? If so, this may be a stuck open thermostat, or missing thermostat. Replace to prevent this issue. Hopefully this helpd!!

2005 lincoln ls V6, 70,000 miles.. intermitently hesitates and occasionally back fires when I try to slowly speed up or start from a full stop. Flooring it works fine, maybe a little residue of sluggish...

Sounds like a catalytic converter stopped up or trying to. The government issued converters be put on all manufactured cars in the US in the late 60's. Every so often you have to blow them out, but it is recommended that you change them every so often. The converter is located in the center of the tail pipe assembly. See if you can find it. Start your car and gun the engine for a couple of minutes and see if the converter heats up. If it gets visibly red hot it is completely stopped up. If there is black smoke coming out of the tail pipe after a few minutes of revving the engine then it is well on it's way to stopping up. Note: It is against the law to cut off the converter on a car. It was put on them to reduce the harmful emissions coming from the engine to help the environment. Good luck.

The box is closed and even with the lid off ,you wouldn't short anything. I will look at my 2004 tomorrow. Forget bouncing a can off it. You got starting issues to work on,just a coincidence.

I have a 2002 Lincoln LS. I've owned it for

I have put my lincoln ls in shop 5 times almost once year for over heating.. first 3 times they replaced the fan motor and fan.. worked for few months and went out again in 2 years have had 3 fan motors. Finally over heated again and they said it was radiator.. so for 800.00 they put in new radiator and as wife was driving car home it overheated.. OMG how insane and they would not refund.. so they took car back in and said it was the water pump.. guess what the so called water pump is really a Hydraulic pump.. so they changed it, fan motor, and new radiator..
Now have all this new and one year exactly car is over heating again.... Solution Get rid of the LS or all us complain to lincoln and for this car is a LEMON....
