Car is 2005 and has a low rpm I guess. when we shift into 5th gear it doesn't seem to increase rpm runs loud

Shifting into 5th gear does not make car run smoother when driving at high rate of speed. it feels like it is pulling or holding back. I can only do 65 on hiway. Has this care ver been recalled?

check your tranny fluid and filter. you may have a clog some where or could be low on tranny fluid.

SOURCE: Tranmission will not shift into next gear from

Try changing the transmission fluid and transmission fluid filter. It is a fairly easy but kind of messy job. Just buy the new fluid and filter, Grab your metric socket set and go at it. NEVER WORK UNDERNEATH A HOT VEHICLE. You have to pull the transmission pan to do this job. When you break the gasket seal several quarts (liters) of transmission fluid will cascade down on you. Be ready for it. Don't forget that when it stops draining there is still a lot of fluid left in the pan. When you finish cleaning up the fluid clean the gunk out of the pan. Install the new filter and reinstall the pan with a new gasket. Do not over torque the pan or filter bolts. If you strip them out or break them off you will need professional help to repair it. Refill the transmission with fluid. It should take six or seven liters.

I have seen alot of governor pressure issues whith those and sometimes the oxygen sensor can short out they share the same ground so if whoever works on this changes governor solenoid and pressure switch bring this to there attention and change the 02 sensor at same time.

Should you drive in overdrive when driving under 50?

You put ANY vehicle in D-- that is 4th or 5th gear &
LEAVE IT THERE

You have an automatic-- why would you want to shift it ?

You use the gear next to overdrive, you increase your rpm
& wear out the motor sooner ,over heat the trans & forget
shift back to D

5th gear shifter linkage reverse

can i assume you pulled the side plug on tranny and the level
is right there? or gone way down, ever do a 50k service? to it?

M/T tranny (not auto) what engine? the m./t varies by HP of ENGINE.
If its really in 5th ( i bet not)
if the RPM rises fast that is called clutch slip
yes, clutch bad.
if not in 5th actual rpm will rise fast too. slip,
if the other gears wroke like 4th at wide open throttle up hill
gee the chutch is good.
so its not going in to 5th (for lots of reasons)
but 1 reason , is easy.

-AX 4/5/15 transmission
this tranny has a shift tower. (that thing on top that the shifter lever
fits in to)
most tranny that fail to actual shift into gear
is caused by a $1 plastic part failure
so pull the shifter off top of the shift tower.
and look, is the plastic buffer parts all bad, missing, cracked or
destoryed, sure they all end there... all.
i can also remove the shifter, lever.
and shift to 5ht by hand, and see that it DOES.
it either does, or does not.
if it does, the lever parts are bad.
that simple.
see part 61 (im guessing which of 5 tranny it is , )

P0756 code Honda accord 2005

P0756all p07 codes are tranny.

  • Shift Solenoid 'B' Stuck Off (read the FSM page on 756 it tells you how to do the checks )

  • if 756 is cleared. (reset it using the scan tool, drive 20 miles, still set?)?

if you get them clear, all DTCs
do the tranny stall test. stated n the FSM.
stall the torque converter. in 1st gear, parked.
if rpm is too low the engine has power issues
if Rpm is way too high (slip?) bad tranny. (or wires to it)

Hard to shift into 5th gear

clutch adjustment or a problem in the trans i believe it's a fluid clutch and may have air in system do other gears seem easy or do they get harder to shift as you move thru the shift pattern possibly shifted into a wrong gear when trying to move into 5th may be an alignment issue

1998 tacoma 3.4L sputters then clears up shifting through the gears

Check the throttle positon sensor on the throttle body. You can do that with a meter. Your idle air control turns off when the truck heats up and is the reason you are noticing it more after it is warmed up.

Loud clicking noise coming from engine when at high rpms. I have a stick. The noise happens just as I'm about to shift from 1st to 2nd, 2nd to 3rd, 3rd to 4th. Doesn't happen much in 4th gear or...

sounds like the rockers or lifters have some play due to wear.you don`t say what rpm you are shifting at other than high rpm.by changing the oil you have increased the viscosity of the oil as its new and not dirty and thin and cold oil is thicker than warm oil.you might want to try a heavier oil to see if it helps.you may not get this noise out unless you replace components or adjustment of rockers if they are adjustable.if its not very bad you may have to live with it.

    1. all vitara/tracker/sidekicks, all have the 2 plastic fittings in the shift box, go, well, to dust, or crack, and then the shift lever bounces and goes out of gear or in fact was never fully in 5th gear, detents.

    2. loose bottom rear transmission mount, (beat to death)

    3. shift rails failing, (detent failure (springs and balls)

    4. burned up fork on 5th gear, due to running trans dry. or near or GL4 fluild looks like, tar and metal filings ; ever consider do ing the service on that, drain and fill, running it on 24year old gear lube?

    5. the 2 front rubber plugs love to fall out (glued in) and then GL4 slowly is lost and gears/bearings and forks are wrecked.

    6. bad 5th gear bearing, rear.

    7. bad 5th gear front bearing. if flops about, and jumps out of gear.

    8. 5th gear synchro ring, broken, causing ill fitting 5th gear DOGS

bearing 30 and 31 are the 2 bearings mention above.

the last guy with 5th failing gear 35 , spins were wrecked.

running trans near dry,. expensive fix. with new cluster 26

    see plastic 27 below.

that page even shows how to run and shift trans with extension housing off, to prove the box is good or bad, such a deal , no ?

    Stick shift # Automatic RPM

That is normal,If you do the same speed in 4th gear the rpm's will almost double.

The rpm's will repond faster in a manual than an automatic.

In a manual the engine supplies the power required directly to the gear that you have selected thus the engine rpm's will increase or decrease as needed.
