Sounds like a blown ignition switch. check all fuses first then looks like you may be replacing a switch. BUT it comes as two different pieces. A mechanical lock cylinder and the electrical pigtail that mounts to the back. You will be replacing the electrical pigtail for the ignition switch

Turn igintion switch, engine won't start

try to clean both side of the key where the little resistor (some people call it chip)with rubbing alcohol
or try your spare key
you can check the resistor with DVOM (digital volt, ohm meter)
put black lid on one side and red on the other side while set on ohm or kilo ohm
if it shows it is open ,you need new key
don't let lock smith guy or dealer say it need to programmed
find the right value of resistance and get on eBay

all it is, just resistor to complete the vat circuit, and tell pcm to send the voltage to your starter solenoid

Turn igintion switch, engine won't start

Has anyone checked to see if you have power at the starter when the key switch is in the start position ?
Could be several things including the battery, cables, starter, neutral safety switch, or key switch.

Car turns over but won't start, then lets out smoke

most probably, the misfire (smoke) was caused by a wrong firing order of the plugs. check if the high tension wires are on the correct plugs.

another thing that can cause this is incorrect ignition timing. have a mechanic check your timing on crankshaft, camshaft, and distributor (if present)

Check the timing belt and the bearings that it runs on
Bearings may be ceased and nylon belt might be broken or seizing and getting hot !

Driving in 105 degree temp, truck quits! What happened?

If the engine won't crank with compression in the cylinders, either the head gasket has blown or something else major has happened.
You will have to get it towed to a shop.
If it cranks normally but won't start, you have to figure out if it is a fuel or ignition problem.
Did the temp gauge show it was overheating before it died ?

Have a 98 Ford Taurus was driving fine then inside of car started filling up with smoke and overheated, then engine died. Now it won't start. Checked fluid levels. They are fine. What should I look for...

We have no idea if you have any knowledge about motor
vehicles at all

So to go into all sorts of diagnostic & testing approaches,
only for you to tell us you never work on your own vehicles,
won't do much for you

It sounds as though your engine is in serious trouble
& may not be fixable in the car as is

Need a lot more to go on to give any ideas

Car turns over like it wants to start but won't . I was wondering if it might be one of the coil packs ?

do you have spark? I believe that model has an an igintion control model but would need motor size for better clarification. If you have spark, your timing is good. Sounds more like a fuel pump or clogged fuel filter. Check your fuel rail under the hood. Did it just not start one day or while driving or something else?
