2.2 dohc vtec engine breaks cam belt would i need to get new motor how would it effect the pistons and valves?
SOURCE: if the cam belt breaks
depends if the valves has hydraulic valve lashes. if not, it will definitely cause damage to your engine. if the timing belt breaks it will leave the valves open and the pistons will rise and impact those valves which can bend the valves and also ur cam.
SOURCE: Removing Camshaft pulley on 2.5 Dohc forester motor
To replace the timing belt back guard you will have to remove both pulleys. There is a small bolt under each pulley holding the belt guard Use a large socket to hold the pulley while you break the bolt loose with a 17mm socket. I have just done this while replacing my head gaskets due to coolant boiling from the gasket leak.

SOURCE: had a cambelt break on
Its because your pistons on 1&4 are up top that is why your bent valves got bent you are doing exactly the same thing so turn the crank back 15degrees position your cam and reset your crank,it seems to me you may be out of your depth lets hope not or it may be expensive
SOURCE: cam belt or chain on 2.0 i vtec ?
