How to replace the power steering pulley on 1998 Cadillac Deville pulleyonly not the pump

Replacing the power steering pulley the best to do it because everthing is so close

  • Anonymous Mar 08, 2013

You never replace just the pulley You replace the entire pump If the pulley failed then the shaft most likely won't support the new pulley & the tools would only be used once in a lifetime,so that isn't even an option

Sometimes it can be done on the car, but special puller is necessary. special tools are necessary even with the pump removed. if you don't have them, don't even try.

Where is the water pump located on a 1998 cadillac deville

The water pump is on the front driver's side of the engine. It is spun by a small belt driven from the end of the cam shaft. You will see a cover up and to the right of the oil dipstick. That covers the pulley. Follow the belt and you will find the water pump. It requires a special tool to replace.

2002 deville, 80K mi., Winning sound at start-up

It could be several things, most likely the idler pulley that keeps the serpentine belt tight. But could also be, power steering pump, altenator. ac compressor or water pump. The best way to find out is to remove the belt from the car by releasing the idler pulley tension. Then one by one check each component by feeling for slack in them and spinning them by hand to see if you feel
roughness. Good luck and dont forget to rate.
