Nope! Just replace it. Go to your Suzuki parts supplier, ask for the part then buy it. Open your car's hood, look for the part that looks exactly what you bought then replace it. EGR is easy to find, its just above the engine with small hoses attached to it.

Ford Escort P1405 Error Code

Are you sure you have EGR flow?? Hold the EGR valve open the engine should run poorly, if not you have no flow.

Check engine light on. code 71

The Code 71 points to a problem with the EGR Gas Temp Sensor. This sensor measures the temperature of the exhaust gases present at the EGR valve and sends this information to the ECU. The ECU compares this reading to its programmed nominal value to confirm proper EGR system operation. If the temperature is too high, the ECU senses that exhaust gases are not being recirculated and NOx emissions will be abnormal. With this sensor faulty it can very well effect fuel delivery, which can lower MPG's (sample Camry engine).

Carbon build up on the EGR valve? There's always a possibility given the age of the vehiclee, but seeing as you are experience a loss of MPG's and have a straight forward Code71, i'd suspect a faulty sensor. Obviously cleaning the EGR ports is always a big help, but i'd venture to say that faulty sensor is playing a big role as well.

While replacing the sensor, clean the sensor's port and clean the EGR ports and you should see an improvement. The EGR Valves on these vehicles are fairly solid, and I don't think it will require replacement. Just a good cleaning of all the EGR related items/ports.

Hope this helps (remember to rate this answer).

if it is the check engine soon light,it is only a sensor telling you your van is not running 100% on fuel economy or pollution standards have dropped .no big deal you can fix it when ever.

Service engine code indicates EGR valve.

You could have a restriction in the egr ports. remove the valve. Plug the holes, start engine. 1 hole will be blowing out exhaust, the other will have large vacuum.
