i have the 1.8 t which is known for the oil sludge problem.i just did an oil change myself with mobil 1 fully synthetic 5w 20 which is what i always used in this car.

my mechanic checked the oil pressure and with the car warm we got 25 psi. and then we reved it up to 2000 rpm and the pressure went up to 50 psi.he told me those #'s were good. but its wierd i drove it yesterday and today to/from work which is 30 miles round trip each day and the light hasnt come on.so if it was a potential problem, would the freakin light be on all the time.this is driving me crazy.i would take it to audi but if the light isnt on,what the hell are they gonna do?just charge me $100/hour and tell me must be electrical because its not on now.

That engine does suffer from sludge, but also well known for oil pump failure which will kill the engine if it goes, might be worth dropping the sump and checking the oil pick up pipe, then go from there

    what engine is in it??

There are potentially two different problems here.
1. A fault with the actual oil pressure.
2. An electrical fault with the switching circuit.

If you are confident the problem is not with the oil pressure, disconnect the wiring from the switch for a period of time. If the light still comes on periodically the fault must be with the wiring circuit shorting to earth. There will be no fire hazard to this approach as the voltage will drop over dash lamp.

However if the problem is with the oil supply system, the danger with this approach is you are potentially unaware of a serious problem

Such as the oil filter collapsed or the oil pressure release spring could be jammed open/closed which would cause the engine to not have the correct operating pressure.

Solution for testing on the road

Install 2 oil pressure gauge one that is the original electrical one and one that is a simple gauge

To do this you will need to buy

    1. Tee piece that is relevant to the Audi’s Block thread and switch thread roughly under £5. This will connect the original electrical oil pressure gauge with the new psi gauge.

    2. Buy an oil pressure gauge which will sell for roughly under £10

    3. Buy piping long enough to safely go to the driver. (Avoiding HOT engine components and MOVING parts that could rip the pipe or cause a fire. These are generally under £7.00 for 15ft.

After you have installed the new gauge take the car a drive and see if the light comes on. If the light comes on you can check the gauge to see if the oil pressure is actually wrong for the oil light to be coming on. If there is nothing wrong with the oil pressure there is something wrong with your original oil pressure gauge or the wiring going to it is short circuiting but if the oil pressure is incorrect then seek further help from a mechanic as there is a serious problem.

Hi I have 2001 a4 1.8t the problem is not the oil sensor its the screen on the oil pump in the oil pan you have sludge clogging the screen It has to be removed and cleaned can be done for approx 400-500 dollars by someone who knows Audi's.. the oil pressure is reduced at higher RPM 's the turbo has oil in it when the engine is at full temp from driving you stop the car after driving and shut it off the turbo bakes the oil in side the turbo it turns to sludge it needs time to cool down to normal temp before you turn off the engine you must use synth oil and must change every 4-5000 miles I saved my engine from seizing If you drive very long with the red oil light on you will seize the cam bearings and bend all the values good luck there is hope! Ive gota 2006 audi a4 sline when a oil pressure light came on it stil drives does not rev over 2000 revs and throws alot of black smoke owt what isit

Black smoke is a sign of excessive fuel, there is something wrong with the fuel injection or one of the sensors which is sending an incorrect signal to the unit, perhaps it is still inn start enrichment. The oil pressure switch could be linked to the start system and the switch is either faulty or the engine oil pressure is failing.

My oil service light came on a few days ago than today my car stopped while i was driving it i was able to restart it but now its making a weird sound

HI, you dont say what the sound is like, Have you checked the engine oil, this car as the PD engine fitted and only use good fully synthetic oils.it could have gone into limp mode for lots of reasons, go to a reputable repair centre and get the car checked out, good luck.

something has been left disconnected. look at the back of the head (remove the plastic cover on top of the engine, just there for looks) and make sure everything is hooked up. if not you need to return to this mechanic and have him correct the issue.

OIL SENSOR LIGHT ON 2001 Audi 2.8liter

It could simply be maybe the person changing your oil never reset the light? or you have a oil pressure sensor leaking or not working.
most of the time its someone never reset the oil change light. even before it goes on it goes by mileage, so maybe it didnt go off yet cause you cnahged it a tad early.so noone even tried to reset it.

I guess you could have an oil pressure problem, but thats going the extreme route.. but if nothing else shows that could be a problem.

2002 audi a4 oil pressure light issue

THOSE NUMBERS ARE VERY GOOD, THE PROBLEM MOST LIKELY IS A DEFECTIVE OIL PRESSURE SENDING UNIT, HAVE REPLACED 100'S OVER THE YEARS FOR THIS SAME ISSUE, GREAT THAT U CHECKED THE PRESSURE THOUGH, IF THE LIGHT WAS INDICATING ACTUAL LOW PRESS U COULD HAVE WASTED THE BEARINGS IN THE ENGINE.

2002 AUDI A4 OIL LIGHT COMES ON AND CHECK ENGINE LIGHT.

The code system too lean, is caused by the bank 1 02 sensor, as far as the oil light coming on with oil ok,I would say the oil sending unit. Have those checked or replaced. Without testing this and that, it's hard to say what's causing it.
