Question about 2003 Volkswagen Passat

How to remove battery from 2003 Volkswagen Passat?

I found one post that talked about a bolt holding in the left front of the battery for an '02 Passat. That doesn't seem to be it. My husband thinks it has to do with brackets?
(The plastic cover is already off.)
It can't be pulled straight up.

The battery hold down bolt is on the right front lower corner of the battery. You will probably have to take off the cowl plastic vent panel, but remove the windshield wipers first. If it is a factory battery , it will be heavy lifting it out from that position. I am repairing the front of a 2003 Passat in my shop  now. Good luck!

Were is battery 2003 vw wagon

Remove the plastic that covers it (right below the windshield) this is most easily done by pulling the rubber strip that holds it down. Remove battery clamps and there may be a bolt holding the battery at the bottom with a bracket. Battery will pull out then.

How do I replace the battery in a 2003 pontiac montana? I can't hardly even see the battery for all the stuff on top and surrounding it. Is there a trick to this??

Before disconnecting the battery, make sure the radio is turned off. If left on, the radio will ask you for the radio code to have it work again.
  • You have to remove the round bar on the passenger side. There are two bolts in front and one in the back by hood hinge. The round bar slides out of the relay box.
  • Remove the wire connecting to the relay box to the battery by removing the holding nut. Lay the relay box over - towards the motor.
  • Remove the hold-down bolt located on the backside of the battery at the bottom.
  • Remove the batter posts bolts. Remove old battery.
Put new battery in and reverse the above steps. Good luck and keep me posted.

Yes, you must remove it. The oil pan plug is a BOLT, not a large allen head type screw.
