1966 Ford Ranger Won't Go Into Reverse

My husband came home on Friday and said he can't put his truck in first and can't reverse. He believes it the transmission. Is there anything we can do? It's three-on-a-tree.

99 ford won't go into reverse and makes a clunking noise this started a few days ago and all fluids are topped off.

You mean you can put it in reverse and it won't go? or the shifter won't move into the reverse position? If you're putting it in R and it won't go, then it's an internal tranny issue.

1966 mustang coupe motor 289,4 barrel carb.automatic trans. makes a noise when put in reverse,is this normal?

What kind of noise? A clunk, chatter, whir, grinding, or what? If it's a clunk, you may have a worn U-joint. Test by holding brake on and change between drive and reverse and back. If you hear a "clunk" when the tranny engages, it's probably a worn U-joint. Not a hard repair to do in the driveway. Always change BOTH front and rear U-joints - if one's worn, so's the other.

Grinding when in reverse and tries bogging down at lights

stop shifting so hard. your reverse gear is the same exact gear as your first, so if you shift hard and grind that gear a little then reverse will be harder to get into. you probably need your transmission rebuilt the harder your engine has to work the more its going to bogg down
