Question about 1989 Chevrolet K1500

No brakes Replaced pads master cylinder, rear calipers.bleed brakes, firm pedal. start car pedal goes to floor.

    brake booster will not give a fading pedal.look for leaks in your brake lines

    try checking your brake booster. sometime the master cylinder is very hard to bleed out

I have replaced 3 disc brake calipers on my 2001 pt cruiser. after bleeding all 4 brakes 3 times, I started the car and brake pedal goes to floor. is my brake booster shot?

You must start bleeding the brakes at the wheel farthest from the master cylinder (usually the right rear), then the next farthest from the master cylinder, then the next, then the closest. If your master cylinder is at the left front of the car, start with the right rear, then the left rear, then the right front, then the left front. If you don't bleed the brakes in the correct order, you are just shifting the air in the lines from one line to another. Make sure that you close the bleeder before letting the brake pedal up, and the engine should not be running when you bleed the brakes... Make sure that the emergency brake is off. Make sure that the master cylinder does not run out of brake fluid at any time that you are bleeding the brakes.

Rear caliper on 2005 Ford F150 not releasing, replaced both rear calipers, now pedal goes to the floor - no brakes at all. What can/should i do?


Sounds like it still has some air in the system or a bad master cylinder. First try bleeding all air, there is definitely some air left in the lines and this is most probably causing the problem. Bled the lines at the bleeder screws on the calipers. ---------- There is air left in the brake line.Any time the brake system is opened to replace brake lines, caliper, pads etc etc.Mostly the air enters the system, and that air has to be completely bleed.Otherwise the same symptoms , what you are getting will be noticed.-------- Brakes can be bled manually, with a power bleeder, injector tool or vacuum bleeder.IIt does not make any difference which method you use as long as all the lines and components are flushed with enough fluid to remove any trapped air bubbles or air pockets.----
The most common bleeding procedure is to bleed the brake furthest from the master cylinder first, then bleed the other brake that shares the same hydraulic circuit (which may be the other rear brake on a rear-wheel drive car or truck, or the opposite front brake on a front-wheel drive car or minivan). After these have been bled, you then bleed the other brake circuit starting with the furthest brake from the master cylinder.--------- When the complete air is bleed from the line, the brake should be firm when car is on.In your case brake brake pedal is loose and goes almost to the floor when car is ON.This is due to Air in the line.Get the complete air bleed from brake line.------- This will help.Thanks.Helpmech

Just replaced rotors, calipers, caliper brackets, and pads. Bled all four wheels, starting with the farthest away from the master cylinder working my way to the closest. Brake pedal feels firm when car...


Bleed with the car running and make sure all the air is out. Now make sure there is no leak and the pad contact are adjusted without much gap so that the calipers hold on. make sure the servo assist is correct, if so and the master cylinder was set right , it must work. Please recheck all your work once again to trim up.

BY TRUCK HAVING ABS BRAKE.YOU NEED A SCANNER TO BLEED BRAKES THE SCANNER HAS TO RESET OPERATION OF THE BRAKE HYDRALIC SYTEM BEFORE YOU CAN BLEED SYSTEM.

Replaced master cylinder, and all brake calipers/pads. Brake pedal still goes to floor. Can't find air leak. What's the problem?


Its not air leak, you must bleed air from system. You have to bench bleed the master cylinder, then bleed each caliper starting from the right rear, then left rear, then front right, then front left. If you've already done this, then do it again, you must have air in your lines or they would work. The only other thing could be your rubber lines are bad and swelling(absorbing the hydraulic pressure) but they would have to both be completely mush.

bleed the brake again. if the pedal goes to the floor with little resistance, then the master cylinder is your problem.
the shim is to depress the noise when you applied the brake. you can skip that, if the brake works without it.

Bleed brakes but no pedal


Good! You bled the master cyl. before installation! The proper order of bleeding the lines, is to start with the wheel the greatest distance from the master cylinder. Then work your way to the next greatest distance, and last, the closest wheel. Make sure all air is removed from the lines before you proceed to the next wheel, and frequently check the master cyl. level, because, as I'm sure you know, if you **** in air at the master, you have to start all over again. I'm assuming you don't have a power bleeder, so with a helper do this with car running (make sure it's on safety stands and not going to fall on you!) Pump pedal 3 times, no need to mash the pedal into the floor, just 3 pumps 1/2 way down, hold 3rd pump at half way down level while bleeder is opened, when flow is about to stop at bleeder, close bleeder and repeat til no evidence of any air. Let me know how it goes and if you need any help.

Just replaced the calipers and blead the brakes. Pedal still travels clear to the floor.


Did you bleed the wheel furthest away from the master cylinder? THen next furthest, to closest last. Did u make sure the master cylinder never got low enough to draw in air? To bleed, Pumo brakes 3x, holding pedal down 1/2 way, while bleeder is opened, let air/fluid flow, shut bleeder as flow diminishes so no air gets in the line. Is the car running when u bleed brakes? It should be. If u are doing all of this u should feel your pedal coming back (getting firm). Let me know how you make out. countrycurt0
