Here are the more common cause of surges, stalls at stops, slow idle speed, erratic idle, it is in most cases the idle speed control air-bypass valve and/or throttle valve and upper intake, these area's get full of gunk and combustion residue over the miles and cause idle issues (stalls, low idle) like yours, Get a can of intake cleaner from any local parts store, not carb spray, intake cleaner, it is made by a company called CRC, remove the air intake hose to the engine, hold the idle high so the engine won't stall, then spray the can of cleaner into the intake while keeping the engine running, use at least 1/2 the can, shut down the engine and disconnect the battery for 5 minutes, then restart and complete a number of mixed driving

2000 Mitsubishi montero sport limited keeps dying while driving


my monterosport 2001 runs great till you come to a stop sign the rpms drop and it dies start it back up revs itself and rpms drop and it dies. we can start it up rev it and it clearsup and idles but later on when you come to a stop it dies again we have cleaned the egr valave and still same thing could the tps be the problem or what?

The montero runs fine but will not idle if you keep it accerated it wont die other wise it will


I had the same problem with mine, I just adjusted the idle speed by tightening the throttle cable at the throttle body located on the top of the engine at the intake manifold. It's ran fine since, about 3 years now and the problem has not repeated itself, hope this helps.

It dies when I hit the brakes, unless I put it in neutral, then dies when I put it in drive (its an automatic).

Will not run at an idle

Battery chaged and car DOES NOT idle


when u disconnected the battery u lost the adaptive idle learn program, do the following to clean the intake and allow normal idle

the idle speed is computer controlled and not adjustable, slow idle is caused by a dirty intake, do the following.
