This is a common problem on the blazer. If you can hear the rod actuator working, then the actuator rod to latch rod connector has broken. It's plastic, and a poor GM design.
To get the rear hatch open you will need to manualy release it. It can be done by working as much of the plastic tailgate trim you can get loose, from around the top center of the gate, where the latch is. remove the 2 screws that hold the handle on and remove handle. Then pry as much as you need to access the c type latch, and release it by moving it... it's spring loaded and will only move one way. Haveing someone help you lift the hatch while you unlatch it from inside the vehicle helps. After you get the hatch up and the tailgate folded down, make sure the latch is locked in the open position.
The actuator can be repaired, i've done it several times. GM will try and sell you a new one, which is rather costly compared to the $8.00 piece of plastic you need.
Good luck and i hope this helps.

HI there, the rear hatch on our 2001 chevy blazer wont open, we have tried the remote the internal release in both the console and the actual door and the release button on the outside, nothing is working....

Eddie, are both the rear door and glass not opening? I had a personal issue with my 05 Envoy where both would not open, I had to pull the peek hole right above the latch on the inside, work with a screwdriver to release the door and get it open then, spray the linkages with a good penetrating lube while trying to free the linkages parts. You'll see what I mean

Rear window will not open or release , can hear electric release

you will need to check all the fuses first, then remove the pop window switch and check for power at switch, and power going through switch when button is pushed, this button is on the dash, if there power then you may have a bad release motor,if your blazer does'nt have a hatch release on the dash then you will have to remove the panel on rear door and test there .

My unlock button and the button on the rear hatch wont open how do i get the panel off on the inside to see whasts wrong any suggestions

check your fuses first if none are blown (usually horn fuse) there should be an access release that will at least let u get your hatch open which will make checking it over mechanically far easier. heres a pic i found of the release.

I have a 2004 Chevy Blazer. I cannot open the rear hatch. When I press the button I hear a motor running nothing happens. Is there something that I can do in the inside of the vehicle to open it.

Hi: the hatch release is not a motor it is a solenoid, you should hear just a click. If wipers and door locks not working check under the hood in the power distribution box for the 3 Amp fuse and replace. To manually open the hatch get in the back of the unit, in the center of the door below the window where the carpet starts below the plastic run your finger across the carpet, you will find an indentation where you insert a pointed object through the carpet. This allows you to release the latch for the window or hatch. Please rate suggestion....JD
