RE: 1997 Isuzu Trooper "Replacing the Speedometer"
I suggest you buy a repair manual if you love your Trooper and plan on keeping it! You can buy it online by clicking on the following link @ http://www.autorepairmanuals.biz/site/573683/product/UX097WSML01
It's pretty steep @ $120 but I couldn't find any (zero, zip) manuals for the Isuzu Trooper except this one and it's used. I'm guessing you have what will be a classic someday!
Removing the dash is a complicated process with a lot of parts, hidden screws under plastic covers, and a lot of wires you don't want to short out!

23 years old, that counter is shot,,take dash apart and if you can find a new one buy it and install it.While you got the dash apart unplug that bulb, are you trying to restore this car? if not I wouldnt bother with either.
Remove the surround from around the speedo and rev counter by taking out the screws holding it in place and carefully pull out of place, have the steering wheel dropped to its lowest position also. Then take out the clocks by removing the screws keeping it in place. There should be two wiring looms going into the back of the clocks, these have to be uplugged and now you can remove the Clocks out altogether. You should at this point be able to see where the bulb bases are. They come out by twisting anti-clockwise and pulling out. Your autofactor or main dealer should have the bulbs.
HI THERE I TAKE IT THE BULBS HAVE GONE BEHIND YOUR DASH FIRSTLY MAKE SURE THE REST OF THE DASH LIGHTS ARE OK LIKE HEATER/SWITCHES ETC IF THEY ARE OK THEN WE CAN RULE OUT FUSES CAUSE THEY ARE NORMALLY ON SAME FUSE.
TO STRIP DASH YOU WILL NEED TO REMOVE TORX OR PHILLIPS SCREWS AT COVER OF SPEEDOMETER YOU CAN NOW REMOVE COVER NOW YOU WILL SEE PHILLIPS OR TORX SCREWS HOLDING IN SPEEDOMETER REMOVE SCREWS AND MOVE SPEEDOMETER ONCE YOU HAVE DONE THIS DISCONNECT PLUG AT BACK OF SPEEDO YOU SHOULD BE ABLE TO GET TO BULBS ONCE YOU HAVE DONE THIS REPLACE BLOWN BULBS AND REBUILD BACK UP IF THIS HELPS YOU PLEASE RATE IT THANX.
