I have a 1998 Monte Carlos. I had to slam on the brakes and.now the ABS light and brake lights are on. What could it be. They were fine before I had to slam on my brakes to avoid a car in front if me.

You have a brake fluid pump on board that over rides high pressure to keep the wheels from locking up by openning a bypass valve. If you can lock up the wheels by hitting the brakes hard the valve is stuck :( very costly. If they dont lock its electrical if they do you just wont have ABS. This is something that was passed on to me so i drove without ABS car stopped fine.

My brakes are locking up in the rear of my 2001 cavalier z24. I had new shoes put on because i thought it was the problem... didn't work, i had my master cylinder replaced and it seamed to work for about 2...

are they adjusted up tight? You can check this yourself. Jack up one wheel at a time, take the wheel off, take the drum off, and adjust (#16 in the picture) until the drum barely goes on.

Brakes may be worn out and locking up. Take car to a brake shop but ask him first is there anything you can do to fix this. Don't drive without brakes.

I have a problem with my brakes!!! When i brake It seems only the rear right brakes grabs, it's like it's too high, i loose it up, at first it work but it got tight again. When i brake that wheel locks...

to bleed brakes you should bleed the passenger rear first then the other rear then passenger front then driver front always start the bleed furthest wheel from the master cylinder
