No the problem is that the solinoid on your starter is passing current through to the motor before engaging.

Whats wrong ?? my clapper starter motor jams on my 351c ringgear with c10 trans

Go to your nearest NAPA and see if they have shims for this starter. If it is the kind I'm thinking of, pulling the starter slightly away from the ring gear so it will not bind anymore.

Replacing starter

Is it 4 cylinder? or 6? If it's 4, the starter is on the front bottom of motor, behind the radiator. A 6 cylinder is on the backside of the motor. Disconnect battery first...... There are only 2 bolts on the starter to take it off. There is a rubber cover over the selanoid wires. Move that back and undo the nut. Pull wires off. In the center is the bigger cable [ battery cable] . You then disconnect the nut for this, and take that wire off. Unbolt the 2 bolts on the starter and watch for shims. Sometimes starters are shimmed to make them line up with the fly wheel. Pull starter out. . If there were shims in the old starter, it is wise to use them in the new one too, and if it doesn't have shims, your new starter may still need them. Bolt the starter back in place, and reconnect the wires the same way you took them off. When you start it, if you hear the starter grinding or wailing, just not sounding right, that means you either have to take the shim out or put the shim in. Chances are this won't happen, but nice to be warned if it does.Hope this helps you out keep me informed how you make out or if you have any questions. Please rate my solution thanks

How to remove a starter from a 1999 chevy silverado 4x4 pickup

1) Disconnect Negative Cable on Battery
2) Starters on right-side Close to Trans. Bell Housing
3) Remove the 2-Starter Bolts and Shim if it's
if it has shims.
4) Remove the wires off Solenoid: Mark Them:
5) Remove the Heat Gaurd Over top of Starter:
6) Take Starter on Out.

To Re-Install Reverse the Procedure that you Removed the Starter. NOTE: the Shims if there was any are only nessary if the Casting of the Starter is not Exactly or Close to The Original.

Be sure that All the Wires you Took off the Starter Solenoid are put Back on the Exact Same Terminal. And Snug them up .Be careful not to Over Tighten,:
Specs on Bolts Are :
Torque Starter Battery Cable Nut to 90 inch lbs
Torque Smaller ingnition wier nuts to 18 Inch Lbs
Torque the 2- Starter Mounting Bolts to 35 FOOT lbs.
Remember if your Old Starter Had Shims the New one MIGHT need Shims. All Starters Casting are just a Little Different. like by thousands of an inch. So if you have problems you might have to remove or add shims, they come in different sizes. Hope this has helped you,Please let me know how this solution Helped. Thank You: From d_hubbs

Where is the starter on the 1995 eagle vision

It is well buried. You will find the tail end of it just above and rearward of the driver's side motor mount. It is fastene to the trans bell housing. There is probably a trans line support bracket/plate you will need to remove usually mounted to the middle stud. Be sure to disconnect the battery before you start because the cable is connected directly to battery. There also should be a shim plate between the nose mounting and transmission bell housing. That shim can be a pain but it does prevent premature wear to the flywheel ring gear. (it only fits one way) Those starter solonoids are a common failure item. (only gives a click, or sometimes not even that, when trying to crank.) Let me know if this is helpful

Starter Problem

if you drop the trans. dust cover on the bottom of the bell housing you should dee your fly wheel. Place your starter in the position and line up the shims (if needed) . adjust the starter in enough to where it clears the torque converter and shim outward if needed
