Question about 1992 Ford Explorer

1 Answer

Gauges died We bought my son a 1992 explorer. the electronic 4x4 wasnt working so we were checking the wiring. the switch is getting no juice, but midway through checking that we noticed the amp gauge, oil pressure gauge, and tach were not working anymore. we checked all of the fuses in the fuse box under the dash and the one under the hood. the radio still works, the lights both dome, and headlights still work, but the gauges are a no-go. any ideas aside from taking the whole dash apart and checking every wire in the system?

I have a 93 GMC 4x4 gauges started bouncing lights flickered truck died headlights work dome light works will not turn over battery is good what could it be

You may have to check your ignition switch, also check voltage to and from ignition switch. Your instrument cluster should get voltage feed from ignition switch. Anything electrical, you want to check voltage and ground for that system.
Your starter motor circuit usually has two voltage circuits, one comes straight from the battery, hot all the time. The other circuit goes hot with key in the crank position and is wired through the neutral or clutch switch, depending on the tranny. The starter usually grounds through the engine block. You may have a starter relay? I haven't looked at your wiring. Any testing at the starter make sure tranny is in park or neutral and the parking brake is set.

My son was coming home from work in his 91 buick park avenue.Apparently the altenator went out and it caused a small fire which melted the belt. He has replaced the altenator, belt and small plug from...

The alternator has 3 wires. 1 to battery, 1 to ground,1 to selenoid. (maybe more depending on car) A commom mistake is to switch the selenoid and battery wires. wires. Try switching them even though it might not seem right. My old mustang said "B" on alternator so i put that to the battery. I was wrong. cost me 85 bucks for them to just switch a wire. So maybe try switching em.

I have a 1992 s10 with power windows, the driver window will not roll up when i push the button up the gauges dim really bad and the truck almost dies.

Sounds like the window switch or the wiring going to the window motor has a short. There could be a pinched, or shorted to ground power wire from the switch to the motor.

How do you find the problem with the push button 4x4.

Check your vacuum lines going to the 4x4 switchs and transfer case, especially around and under the battery box. If one is damaged or broken 4x4 won't work. If they all check good the you will need to make sure you are gotting vacuum to all your switches. The switch on the front transfer case sometimes locks up. If you have vacuum to it when the 4x4 is selected then the switch is bad.

2003 1500HD 4x4 instument cluster not working

you may want to trace the fuse for the instrument panel check the voltage on it ,take juice from some other fuse and help it ,for more options you may want to trace both ground and power to the back of the instrument cluster,if fuse has no power relay or bad wire may be the fault

Battery aint holding a charge just bought new alternator for my 1992 ford explorer 4x4 plus a new battery i bought

take the negative battery cable of and put a test light in line from the cable to the battery post with the ign in the off position. light should not come on. if it does you have parasitic draw of power from somewhere pre-ignition. check you alternator and starter wires to be sure they are connected properly.
