Question about 1999 Ford F350 Regular Cab
I have a 1996 F-250 Turbo Diesel 7.3 liter with about 150,000 miles. Here my problem. The truck will crank but will not fire. I have the heater plugged in and I've put in a new crank position sensor. The exhaust does not smoke when cranking. I sprayed in ether in the intake and it will fire but will not stay running. It ran when I parked it but when attempting to start it almost started twice but would not stay running. Also the day before when it was running the truck acted like it didn't want to take the gas and then cleared up and run fine. Does anyone have any ideas? I was thinking the injection pump but I can't find any info on testing it and it's about two hundred dollars for a new one.
I had the same problem described here. On the top of the fuel injection pump, there is a plug on the top. Removed it and found the pump did not have any oil in it. Added motor oil to the top, replaced the plug. Turned over the engine and it fired right up. The pump is what makes the fuel injectors activate. This pump is suppose to fill from the engine oil. Still looking for why it had drained back into the engine.
