Step1 Disconnect the negative battery cable from the terminal on the battery. Remove the upper and lower steering column covers by unscrewing or unclipping them. Step2 Remove the steering wheel by lifting off the center cover, disconnecting the horn wire and removing the retaining nut and washer. Make a mark on the steering wheel spline and the wheel itself so you can line it back up precisely. Pull the steering wheel straight back to remove from the shaft. Step3 Take off windshield wiper and turn signal switches by pulling them off as you did the steering wheelhoe to remove the ignition switch in 05 ram 1500 - mag-glass_10x10.gif and disconnect the wiring. Slide the spacer sleeve off of the steering column. Step4 Unscrew the ignition switch mounting screws. Pull out the ignition switch. Disconnect the wiring connector from back of the ignition switch. Simply loosen the tabs and pull it out. Step5 Insert your key into the ignition. Turn the ignition switch to the locked position. Depress the retaining pin with a small screwdriver and turn the key to the Off position to free the cylinder. Once it is free, turn the key to lock position and remove the key and key cylinder. Step6 Install your old key cylinder into the new ignition switch assembly. Make sure the contacts in the cylinder and assembly line up. Reattach wiring to ignition switch, slide it into place, screw in mounting screws and reassemble steering wheel and switches.

Key won't come out of ignition on 1999 vw jetta

IGNITION KEY WILL NOT RELEASE

It can be faulty ignition lock cylinder. I suggest to wiggle the steering wheel a bit and see if the key gets released out. If that is not helping then first turn steering wheel to right and try removing the key, or next turn steering wheel to left and see if you can remove the key.

----------

Spray wd-40 in the ignition key hole and let it remain there for few minutes, after that once again try to remove the key and see if that helps.

---------

But if that is not helping then ignition lock cylinder has to be removed out and key has to be manually removed.

My dodge ram 1500 will not start. when you turn the ignition nothing happens. all the panel lights come but none of the guage hands move . could it be the ignition switch?

yes, or the relay. Look in relay box under hood. Ignition relay should click when key is turned on. If not, replace relay. Much cheaper than a switch. May still be the switch, but relay is worth a try.

Neutral ignition switch

automatic or stick? makes a difference, if it's a stick it's on the chutch pedal if it's an automatic it's on the transmisson where the linkage hooks up to the shifter, remove the linkage by removing the nut that hold the shifter on then remove the screws that hold the safety netural backup light switch on be sure you have the E brake on before removing and chalk the wheels remove the switch and go to the parts store and buy a new switch and replace you will have to disconnect the wire harness connted to the switch as well it is a short wire with 4 wire or sometimes 5 on it when installing the new switch be sure to move the new switch to the forward postion so that it set on the can correctly you can turn the inside ring with your fingers to move it once it is lined up replace hold down screws and replace linkage nut.
