Question about 1994 Cadillac Seville

1995Sev Rear Tail & Brake Light "Possessed" & Mostly not working

My 1995 Seville STS Has Brake lights, Turn Signals and Tail lights that will not function properly...not consistent either...Day problems worse than night, probably because of the "Auto" Light sensor...Have had dealership and private mechanic look at it..Almost every Seville I pull behind has some of their lights out so I know there's a design problem. My lower brake lights don't like to work much..the upper light bar is only 2/3 lit. My turn signals don't like to work..front does but not rear. I feel it has to have something to do with the brake pedal switch for part of it...I'll slam my door shut and the damn rear brake lights will light up!! I have to tap the brake pedal and "Close the door Quieter"
I was going to go to salvage yard and try to replace all of the back lights but I think it is also connected to a serious wiring problem...any ideas for a fix??????? I KNOW I'm going to get NAILED from behind soon.....

If the hi mount brake lamp lights up then it is not the brake lamp switch, the other brake lamp wiring runs from the brake lamp switch through the turn signal switch. i would check all the light bulbs and sockets first because these cars like to burn out the grounds in the socket. i was a tech at a cadillac dealership for ten years, also had a 95 sts myself with the same problem. if that doesnt work then look toward the turnsignal switch and the wiring.

I have 89 bronco 2 my brake lights turn signals both work my tail lights don't work have check fuse n blubs what might be the problem

The turn signals and brake lights use the same circuit and filament in the bulbs. The tail lights are on the other circuit which comes from the headlight switch.
Do you have power on the tail light fuse ?

Turning signals and brake tail lights not work

If the center brake light works but not the others, and the bulbs are good, the problem is usually the turn signal switch.

No lower brake lights, working in middle of rear window, turn signals work, tail lights work, back-up lights work

Most problems of this type have been traced to the headlight dimmer switch. Have the exact same problem with mine. When I hold the brake and wiggle the signal light switch the brake lights work.

Running lights work but no blinkers or brake lights. Changed fuses and bulbs no luck

I'm inclined to believe it is the turn signal switch. When you select left or right, the brake light is removed from that side, and the flasher is connected to the bulb instead, making the brake light on that side flash as the indication that you plan to turn. You have lost everything, but the simple answers check out.

If you have lost signals, brake lights and tail lights, then it is more likely that the ground supplied to the bulbs is not working, since the tail lights share noting in common with the brakes lights and turn signals but ground.

If the tail lights work, the fact that the brake lights and rear turn signals share that switch starts to look meaningful — even more so if the front turn signals also don't work. But the front signals and the rear signals use different circuitry in the switch, so it would be something more mechanical in the switch than electrical in that case.

95' Buick regal, 3rd brake light works, tail lights work, turn signals work, stoplight switch seems to work ie 3rd brake light working, fuse is ok, changed bulbs, but no rear brake lights.

If the third brake light works and the regular ones don't, it is most likely a bad turn signal (multifunction) switch. The switch is able to kill the brakes lights to run the turn signals, and in rare circumstances does this. I've seen it several times. It could also be wiring, especially near the turn signal switch, but it is usually the switch.

1998 Lincoln Town Car: No turn signals, 4 way flash, brake lights

If only your brake light in middle of rear window works then your other bulbs are bad. If brake lights all work in the back than bulbs are good. If you put turn signal on right or left and the bulbs light in front and back then you need to change multifunction light control box under dash. My understanding is it cost $600 new. So I would try used.
